Title: Stuck Indicator
Post by: mrhoots on 01 September 2010, 20:49:04
an anyone help? My lefty turn indicator is stuck on and will not flash. I came out of work tonight and it was on. It went off after I stopped the car and restarted it again. I have just been out for some milk but when I opened the doors after getting the milk using the key fob the light came on and has stayed on again. Please help.  :-?

Check each indicator bulb, one may have worked loose.  Check and double check the integrity of the rear light cluster connections and the bulb holders.  They are the usual culprits.  If you have any sign of corrosion on these parts, check the boot for dampness.

IIRC it's more likely to be a stuck alarm relay. Someone will be along I'm sure with its location & how hard to hit it to fix it!  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Would a busted rear light cause the problem? :question

If moisture has got into the rear light, then yes.

Indicators staying on, on one side of the car, has come up before. As AndyB said it was the alarm relay (somewhere up behind the glove box I believe). Fixing it was as easy as removing the glove box and fitting a good relay.

The other issue that comes up is indicators NOT working on one (or both) sides (usually after using the hazards). Switching the hazards on and off 30 times seems to fix it by cleaning the switch contacts.....

No

When the indicator is on without flashing the hazards don't flash, both sets of lights stay on. I have just been out after getting a new bulb and open the doors again and the indicator lights went off.

Getting worse. When I unlock & lock the doors only the indicator lights on the side that get stuck on flash, none of the off side lights flash. I have also put the hazard lights on and tried unlocking & locking the doors a few times. Some times all the light get stuck on. What is wrong arrrrgh!!!  >:(

Points to the alarm relay being the problem.

The alarm relay can be removed to help diagnosis. ALL it does is to flash the lights when the car is locked/unlocked.

As its a double relay  - if one part fails then that will cause one side to stay on.

You can safely drive the car with the relay removed.

My car had the relay removed to hide an alarm fault - hence my lights did'nt flash when the car was locked/unlocked at all.
