Hi All.
Thinking of replacing my CDR2005 with a single DIN unit and fascia adaptor so I can play the iPod (well the kids can ;)).
Just wondering what will happen to the display?
Will it still function?
I know it won;t show the station or CD info, more thinking in terms of date/time and warning messages.

warnings - yes
date and time - no, unless you reconfigure with tech2 or cut a wire.
station / track ifo - no, unless you get a headunit, and adaptor that can drive it, and link to the steering wheel controls :y

Worst case the Time and Date will disappear when HU on and steering controls wont work, other functions remain.

What about controlling the display - on my car the display is controlled by the steering wheel controls or the headunit buttons - if the OPs is like that and he removes the HU, will the wheel still control the display, at least?
Was wondering that myself :)

Thats just for Elites / those with the NCDC satnav's :y
the rest are a less integrated system :y

I'll offer the same advice as before, have a look at the Parrot MKi9200 if all you are after is iPod control
Keeps the Vxl headunit and screen doing what Vxl designed it to do and works out cheaper than a half decent replacement headunit and fascia adaptor.
Plus you get a bluetooth handsfree kit ;D

I was actually looking at those (primarily for the handsfree, iPod control a bonus) and was trying to figure out how they wire into the cars audio system..

Thanks everyone.
I'll stick with what I've got and look at the Parrot thingy.
Now all I've got to do is get the radio code sorted, 'cos I haven't got a passcard and power was off recently for engine work.
I've checked out Dave DND so all I've got to do is remove it - it's one of the awkward ones >:(

Nothing awkward about it - very straightforward to do

When I swapped out my CCR2006 the time carried on working (but I have to set it manually).
The date line only disappears when the radio is switched on (that is the line that would otherwise display the radio info)

yes, I only meant date sorry...and that is fixable but cutting a wire, or tech2ing the car to think it has no stereo (and steering wheel adaptors may not function either after this)

Will the Parrot MKi9200 still work with a Bose setup ? If so , is it any different to install?

Not without some modifications due to the incorrect volume levels - I know some people have tried modifying the Parrot to use with BOSE, but not sure how successfull they have been.
