Ok bit of an odd one this. My car has at the moment a CDR500 Delco head unit which was working ok until the CD packed up and after speaking to dave @ DND it seemed a good second hand unit would be better but make sure is a VDO version as they are better .
Put up a wanted add and AndyB came to the rescue with a CDR500 VDO unit from an Astra, price agreed and i collected from him while i was in Bolton.
Got home late so had a go at fitting the following day.
Plugged in and coded but couldn't get anything to come up on the dispaly although the code did display. Couldn't get any sort of voloum and what i could get was on full bass and only from the N/S/F Speaker. Tried all the controls but nothing happened.
Took the unit out and re-tried with the same outcome and couldn't get any radio stations on auto search either.
Out it came again and check the wiring diagram on both units and they are the same.
Spoke to Andy and have sent the radio back to him and he has tried it back in an Astra and it all works as it should.
Ok so the Declo & VDO units are different between the Astra and Omega but when doing a search on EPC all CDR500 units go to one part number and fit all the model range.
Now out of ideas as to why it works in AndyB's Astra and not in the Omega
Any ideas?
Cheers
Andy

the display, or lack of, could simply be the display setting - 8/10/8+2 options. Doubt it would affect ofter stuff (unless its security if it can't properly talk to display?)
From memory its 2 and 4 together to flick through display modes...

The wiring is the same for VDO and Delco CDR500 models, but the display out may differ depending on which car it came out of. Easily reprogrammed though. As far as the other stuff, impossible to diagnose without first seeing what the display is telling you !!
This should help:
Display Programming
There are two versions of Vauxhall vehicle displays, one with 8 Digits and one with 10 Digits. If you connect this stereo to the wrong display, code entry is possible, but the display will either freeze or dissappear once the code has been entered. To reprogram, Turn off the Radio, Press and Hold Presets "3" & "5" at the same time, whilst switching the radio back on, and this will toggle between the two display modes.

Not a bad guess, as 2&4 are used by some of them as well !!
