Title: car dead, no electrical power, advice welcome

Didn't drive the mig for 5 days and today car is completely dead. Cannot even switch the small internal light on.
Car didn't have the alarm turned on. Didn't leave the lights or anything like that on. The weather was bad for the last two days(raining most of the time).
Battery isn't too old (20 months maybe).
Anyone have an idea what can be the cause.

a flat battery m8   ;D

seriously it could be anything, from a radio left on, boot light, interior light staying on if a door wasnt shut right.

fully charge the battery, then reconnect, jump in car when its dark, and close the doors see if the interior light goes out, or if you can see light from the boot area

Radio is turned off together with the ign, pretty sure internal light was also off.
Have no idea about door lights or boot light >:(

could you have left an indicator switched on which would activate parking lights

Alarm was not turned on so I guess that is not the cause.
Indicator switch could be an issue I forgot to check since it was pitch black and battery was completely drained.
Anyway I removed the battery and left it to be charged, but it will take all day since the charger is only 5 amps  :( and battery is 75 Ah.

Charge the battery and then get it drop tested, batteries can fail  ;)

I know Andy but the battery is not old ( date of manufacture is January 2009) and it is not heavily loaded in my car since it is 2.2 petrol and battery is 75Ah. Either parking switch like Henty suggested or the car is loosing current somewhere

Mat as the alarm turns on when the car is locked did you just leave it unlocked  :question
If so the battery drained as a result, non of the modules will be able to shut down and will be constanly waking up which will cause a power drain.
So recharge the battery and all should be well.

Thanks iainb, I'm only worried cause when the battery goes totally flat usually after recharge doesn't work very well (cells inside get twisted).
Well I'll see tomorrow after a ful recharge.

Trickle charge for about 12 hours should be OK. Fast charging can screw up the plates of the battery as they may get hot and boil away the electrolyte.

The alarm takes about the same current whether it's set or not. :y

You need to charge the battery then measure the quiescent current drawn. Power sounder is, as said, a suspect if it's unacceptably high.
