Title: Replacement LED side repeaters
Post by: johndm1957 on 23 October 2010, 10:18:55
Would changing the side repeaters to LED ones cause the bulb failure warning to trigger, and/or would they change indicator flash speed?

 8-)

They're completely seperate from the bulb failure warning, but it's a good chance your indicators will flash faster as they'll think one has failed ..... unless they've a compensating resistor in them.

Cheers for that.  I'll remove a bulb to see what happens to the flash speed..

If you remove a bulb your indicators will flash faster, whether they flash faster with led bulbs in depends whether they have a high enough resistance built in to keep the flasher relay happy.  :y

Because the near side had a broken plastic clip and is loose.... ;D

Removing the repeater lamp made no change in flash speed whatsoever, nor any bulb failure warning, so I've ordered a pair of smoked lens LED replacements.

Please note....this is on my CTS NOT an Omega, but hey....It's still GM... ;D

Personally LEDS ARE the future, they're being used more an more on production cars until conventional bulbs are completely eradicated. I dont know about everyone else but because theyre still fairly new whenever I see an LED indicator or brake light I tend to notice and go 'ooh'. The instant 'BANG' on 'BANG' off really stands out to me...rather useful on an indicator, I think  :y

Here is a list of my LED's
Front side
Front indicators
Rear number plate
Rear stop (bulb failure does come up but I don't want to touch the loom by putting in a resistor)
Rear indicators
Reverse
Ive fitted a 3 prong LED flasher unit so my bulbs flash at the correct speed without putting anything in the loom.
My only non LED bulb on my car now is the rear Tail & fog combo as they are quite hard to find but all my other bulbs are LED and far superior  :y

Hi Venom.

A list of the bulb numbers you fitted would be usefull for other members should they wish to go down this route and also a link or detials of the supplier and costs per bulb also.

I have tried to get decent side light colour to compliment the oem HID lights up front,so may be intersted in that mod.

I got all my bulbs and flasher unit from here http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/led-car-bulbs/ they are based in Southampton & you can go and get advice, buy & collect which is best if you can so you can just be sure your getting what you want right away, cant price them as they have a wide selection and price varies depending on your own preference but they do have a specific make and model application list data base so just look on the list.
I've always gone down to them and they are just great nothing is a problem  :y

Yep, ta!

Personally, though, I've never pulled any current. I've chatted up a few raisins and sultanas, though  :y
