Title: Where is the ariel amp in an estate?

I have poor radio reception and have spent much time trying to locate the amplifier for the ariel. The TIS gives a false location.  Does anyone know where it should be?
I have replaced the CAR 400 with the CD playing version fitted to an Elite and it is even weaker.

In the tailgate. IIRC at the top, need to remove part of the trim/covering

Is it above or below the glass?
I have removed cover below glass and failed to find it?
