Title: Retro Fitting Parking Sensors
Post by: rajveer.sandhu on 16 November 2010, 09:39:11
Hi

How easy would it be to fit Retro fit parking sensors to an MV6 3.0 facelift Automatic?

I already have the actual sensors that fit in the bumper.
Is the wiring already present?
I am guessing I will need to Tech2 it, to get it to work.

Simple, just follow the wiring diagrams

Wiring diagram? - from where?
So there is no tech2 needed?

Does that mean the wires already exist if I take the rear bumper off?

What have you actually got, just the sensors in the bumper or do you have the control unit as well

I just have the sensors in another bumper (not yet put onto the car).

Is the control unit already in the car? Or do I need that also?

So the 3 things I require are:
Sensors (got)
Wiring (I will need to check)
Control Unit (I am unsure where this would be placed)

Control unit is about £90 from VX. Better off fitting aftermarket

Fitting aftermarket is a doddle... I think it took me about half an hour or so ;) :y

You wouldnt catch me drilling holes in my bumper for reversing sensors, if your a good enough driver you dont need them, its not like the omega is 60ft long  :D :D

You don`t need to cut sensors in if you don`t want to -

You can get a long "strip" sensor that fits discreetly behind the bumper - can`t remember the make offhand, but it`ll come to me in time.

Aftermarket ones usually take a live feed from the reversing lights to activate them, and are really really really easy to fit.

usually i'm not bad but being a caravan and all it is quite long compared to a limo and extra help is always good especially when its only €30 and i'm sure you can drill the holes neatly but dnddave sounds like he has the solution with a strip

I agree that they are not as good as the conventional sensors, but do offer a solution to those who do not want to drill the bumper

 ;)

I quite agree, it was just those that dis-credited it because they felt that it couldn't be as good as the type that you drill the bumper for.

To be fair, its all down to the quality of the product, as I can think of quite a few brands of "drilled" sensor that we will no longer entertain - Steelmate being one of them - bloody awfull

The best ones in my opinion are the Cobra ones, and certainly now the only ones that we use and fit here

The cheap (french?) ones on the MV6 are OK (good job it was a 8 sensor kit - plenty of spare sensors when they fail, which they do), but not a patch on the factory fit (Bosch Parkpilot I believe) which are very, very good
