Title: MID interchangeability
Post by: Varche on 09 December 2010, 12:49:59
Are the Mids easy to change? I already know how to remove the dash.

Also are they interchangeable between models. My 97 pre mini facelift has lost pixels. The 97 mini facelift MID is still perfect. They seem to have different features and disply layout though.

pre mini is Top date, middle trip consumption etc
bottom time
mini FL is top trip
middle date
bottom time.

there are yellow plug type and gray plug allso they are both setup for the engine in car, e.g 2.5 will work in 2.0l but setting will be out or just say F. so make sure it of same engine type. :y

Don't know obout interoperability, but you can have a go at repairing your own.

yes, they changed to a more reliable, and incompatible type at mini facelift..

So, you can try and buy one of a breaker - in working state - unlikely to be better than you have, then have it tech2'd to recode it, or repair your own

The later type (fitted to 1998 and later cars (ie, minifacelift and full facelift)) has a single grey plug, and is mega reliable (backlight bulbs aside.

The earlier type (fitted to pre 1998 cars (ie, preminifacelift)) has a yellow and a black connector, and are prone to pixel failure.

It is possible, with a bit of minor rewiring, to use the later type in older cars (and gain the 2 extra trip computer functions (trip consumption and trip distance (from memory)) IF THE RADIO SUPPORTS 10 digital displays
