Yippee, I did it :y
I was full of horror before I started, expecially as I couldn't even see the blooming thing unless I took the scuttle off and lay on top of the engine.
Thing is that (unless I've gone loopy) I can't recall anyone suggesting taking the wiper gubbins out :question I did that and have to say that it made access much easier. I removed the vacuum pipe between the servo and plenum, undid a couple of connectors & bent the "Y" rubber hose out the way.
That gave all the access I needed to see and get hands in I'm pleased to say.
So, what with my slight misfire sorted and my throttle cable adjusted to give me kickdown - I now have a car that actually performs as it should. :y
Also physically removed the powersound while I was there - dont want to take any risks.
The underbonnet is now complete :D

Can you post some details on how to remove the 'wiper mechanism etc' so others maybe benefit from your tip. DIS Pack failures seem to a regular topic on forum.
cheers

I can't see how you'd do it with the wipers in situ. ;)

I generally remove it as the plastic none return valve stub pipes are easily broken ....... been there & done that. ;)

Remove the wiper scuttle http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1285581852/0#0 then remove 4 hex headed self tapers and remove very carefully so that you don't remove paint from the top of your driver's side wing.

I must admit that I now take the "remove wiper assembly"route since I almost lost the will to live trying to change my first DIS pack!
Important to watch out for wiper mechanism gouging the paintwork but plenty of masking tape for protection helps.
It is a much much easier job and your hand stays intact and you don't loose your best socket down the back of the engine!!
You can even give the area below the skuttle a good clean out. Result!!

I didnt find it much worse than an hbv :-/
scuttle off, unplug / screw then feed it round and out the drivers side

Took my wiper gubbins out halfway through doing it the " painful " way.

Wiper gear out, always. I suppose it's easier if you have small hands. ::)
