Title: changing MID in preFL estate?
Post by: o-meg-a on 24 February 2011, 15:00:59
Hi,
Jus picked up my Pre face lift estate 2.5td (select), and i see it has the basic top half MID with well.....no information but the time and date and outside temp.

Is it possible to fit one that will tell me MPG etc without too much hassle. Are all the connectors and sensors there to read it all?

Also, on a similar note, would it be worth doing that if i was:
a) going to chip the td. Heard it makes the MID go haywire
b) fitting aftermarket CD player, with ipod controls etc.

thanks

Not worth the hassle. Extra wiring....fitting all sensors........etc

ah ok,
Thought it might have taken readings from the ECU.
cheers

sensors have to provide that data to the ECU  ;)

As Rob says its not worth the hassle, most of the loom for those sensors worn't be there either.

I did this to an old GLS when I used to play with such things.

The MPG / fuel calculator appeared to work. The wiring was actually there for most sensors, such as the coolant bottle - so you would be able to achieve most of it, I would imagine. You'd probably have to fool the oil level one into not giving a warning, if there's no connection on the sump.

Personally I wouldn't bother :y

Yeah,
I just thought it might be that the MID took all its info from the sensros already in place for the ECU.
But if it runs off seperate sensors then no i wont bother.

It's gonna go haywire when i chip it anyway apparently. so no big issue really.

thanks
