I only got the Omega a week ago and the PO had fitted a Kenwood KDC-3047a stereo but had not connected the steering wheel controls.
No problem, I thought, after doing a bit of research on here. I'll pop along to Halfords and get a PC99-X06 and a PC99-KEN patch lead which I did today. I plugged everything in and...
...the steering wheel controls don't work! How likely is it that the Autoleads interface is faulty and when I take it back I can swap it for one that works?

Have you tried it with the ignition switched on?
My Autoleads adapter only responds to the steering wheel with ignition on (but it might be my fault because I took the +Ve from the hands free phone harness).

Yes, I did try that but it still didn't work.

Well, I swapped the interface unit and plugged it in and the controls still don't work. I suppose the patch lead could be faulty but they didn't have another one to try.
If it's not the Autoleads unit, could it be something in the steering wheel controls themselves? Anybody got any ideas?

Well the one you have is not working, so i'd go with the orginal manufacture suggestion ;)

PC99-X06 is the correct one for the Omega
The weblink posted is for "CAN" cars using a 2 digit stereo, CD30/40/70 etc

Just as likely for the head unit to be faulty as the autoleads bit !!

Or the steering wheel/squib wiring could be faulty.?

Hmm. Good point. It was fitted by Halfords in September (the PO left the receipt for it in with the handbook) so I guess it should still be covered by warranty. But I'd bet they'd say all bets are off after I've fitted the Autoleads bits myself.
I'll do a bit more digging and see if there's any clues from Kenwood.

Just to follow up...
I got it sorted. It was the patch lead (PC99-KEN) that was faulty. I swapped it for another and as soon as I plugged that in the steering wheel controls worked.
BTW, when I was buying the kit at Halfords I noticed that there were two PC99-KEN kits hanging from the rack but the front one didn't have the single blue lead in it (and also didn't have the instruction sheet). "Naughty", I thought, "someone has pinched the lead they wanted and left the packet on the rack". I bought the one behind that had both leads in it. This is the one that turned out to be faulty. I went to another branch to get a replacement lead and the first two packs hanging on the rack had the blue lead and instruction sheet missing.
I think people are either nicking the lead from the rack, or using the one that they want and then returning the other lead to get a refund. If you don't know that PC99-KEN includes two leads you would never know that one was missing.

Actually, most reputable stores will only sell you the correct lead, rather than a pack containing lots of ones that are unneccessary

Yeah, well I don't have any reputable stores near me. Only Halfords. (And the kit with both leads in was only £4.99 anyway).
