Title: NCDC2013 snags
Post by: joff on 28 February 2011, 17:01:20
TB was kind enough to Tech2 my 2013 yesterday and said that the unit was not talking to the aerial connectin for the sat nav. I have had it all apart today and everything is conneted OK. Now I have put it all back together it spits the satnav disc out when I start the car and still wont pick up. I have had a look at the aerial connectin and only one of the 3 connections that are there is connected but there is only one connection from the aerial anyway is this normal.

Any Ideas anyone >:(

Thought that the aerial stubby had 2 co-ax cables on the base :-?

Its not a stubby on the estate I have and my ald 3.0 elite estate had a normal one aswell but I can't remember how many connections it had.

I have the NCDC2013 as well and my aerial has a larger base than my mates Elite had and I think that is where the GPS receiver sits.

Yep, there should be at least two coaxial connectors from the aerial - on mine there are three (I suspect on all of them, in fact):

One fat push-fit connector = radio
One small screw-fit connector = GPS
Other small screw fit connector = telephone (unused on my car, but still connected to the car loom)

I can't remember which of the two small connectors is the GPS and which is the telephone.. I think the female connector (aerial side) is the GPS and male the telephone.

I have a 2001 Elite with inbuilt satnav as well as inbuilt phone.  possible that it may be different without the telematics.  Will check The Big Book for part numbers and get back to you....

It's the car loom that has 3 connectors. the base on mine at the moment only has one for the radio. :-?

Ident MX (the first one I posted on the dealer listing) has 4 seperate connectors on its base.  Will have a rake for one with just 3....

Looks like one, two or four connectors, none show three.

I'm not clever enough to post links showing the pics on the screens I'm viewing, perhaps someone more cleverer could assist...   :-[

Actually I think mine has four separate connectors (completely different to yours) - three signal and one power IIRC. If I get chance at the weekend I'll pop the roof lining down and take a picture.

Have you tried:
1. Get image on screen
2. Press 'PrtScreen' key (to copy screen to clipboard)
3. Open your favourite image/photo editing programme (eg photoshop, my preference is Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/windows/))
4. Paste the image in the image editor

Joff I think perhaps I can answer your problem been there myself it possibly ties in if you have a tailgate spoiler fitted

It is only 3 connectors as i counted the radio one twice

When you fit the correct aeriel you will need a Prodrive mod (they are the maker of your spoiler) This mod fits between the aerial base and the mast. It is a small ball and allows the mast to be positioned to avoid contact when the tailgate is opened. If you want to get one I can seek out the contact phone and Prodrive's part No

Title: Re: NCDC2013 snags

Right, the base I have here is for an Astra, unfortunately the Nav GPS connector is different and the angle of the Dipole is going to be wrong for an Omega estate (although the Prodrive adaptor would correct it).

You could concievably cut the connector off this one and crimp the correct one on but that will be a bit of a trial to obtain the correct plug (been there got the T-Shirt).

The amplified section of your base appears to have had the +12v feed wire cut off in your picture. If the radio reception is OK I think i'd just leave what you have there and add a seperate GPS mouse directly into the unit. This is one has the correct connector on it for direct connection:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230526593445&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

You could then just tuck the mouse up under the dash as long as you don't have a heat reflective windscreen.

Hope that helps

PS. H21 I might be able to make use of that antenna and base if you still wish to sell it?

This elite does indeed have a reflective windscreen so that idea is out and would like the correct parts for the car. Three must be one out there  :-? :-/

Silly money from VX, I think £80ish rings a bell. Hence why for any more retrofitting of NCDC/R's I do in for anyone won't be using genuine GM antenna's - Plenty of other options out there.

I asked Andyc a while ago - the one I needed for my car (and the one the OP needs) is no longer available from GM, but was available as obsolete stock from Europe at £160+ at the time.

Which is a bit eye watering! Might as well just buy a TomTom for that price, sadly.

I've been looking at other options on other car models but you hit the same 'daft price' snag each time. Hirschmann do some well specced units that meet the requirements but you need to buy them through evil bay to get the price reasonable.

I've bought some cheap 'twig' style GSM/GPS (Elite saloon style) units from China that i'm testing at the moment, seem OK. It's far simpler to route the loom tails direct to the HU and terminate with the correct connectors rather than try an crimp connectors on at the antenna end to connect to the inbuilt GM loom.

I would think with all the Migs going to the wall there would be one out there with the part I need. I know it's mad but i like to have the correct part, that's the one fitted at the start of the life of the mig. It's having a car as it sould be (call me mad but that's just me) :y

Trouble is, not many had the Nav fitted (even fewer had the telematics!)

....and when I do find one the gasket is always falling apart and i've yet to find a supplier for just the gasket.

Do you mean the twig from a saloon? If so you'll find that the connections are the same as those on the H21's aerial photo less a radio aerial (Built into the screen on a saloon).

A good quality option would be this:-

http://www.panorama.co.uk/datasheets/kf-de-bc-GPS.pdf

Looks like the angle of the dipole wouldn't present a problem with the boot spoiler.

PS. Your old CD estate (Mrs VXL V6's car now) has an Astra GPS/GSM/RADIO base on it to run the NCDC2013 and that doesn't foul the Elite boot spoiler (also now fitted to the tailgate!)

Sometimes they pop up on ebay (new) at a decent price.

Interestingly, my aerial does hit the boot spoiler.. I presume that means the aerial isn't original (probably replaced by the previous owner trying to fix the lack of GPS reception on the NCDC2013)

No it's the correct aerial they all hit the spoiler well they have with the mig's i've had. but there is an adapter you can get from proline that fits between the base and the aerial that puts the aerial at 90 deg to the roofand all is then fine.

Just got back from the stealers with my new coil pack for the 3.2 elite (£101.83 inc VAT with trade card). I had asked about the base now I know which one is correct thanks to you all :y and the price is and this is when you all sit down £279.02 inc VAT (part No 9146035) but he will take 15% off that for me as it's not on trade card which will take it down to £237.16 and is back order and in stock in Germany.

If it hasn't got the red and white switched +12v connected then the aerial amp will not be functioning. It's more about overcoming the inherent loses in the downlead which has three joins in it.
