Title: Reverse Sensors
Post by: Drewomega on 05 March 2011, 13:14:04
Hi! After leaving car with battery disconnected for three weeks, everything was reset. In putting the car in reverse the sensors gave a continuous audible tone. Is this because there is damp in the unit or some other problem? Also where is the unit? The speaker is in the roof lining above the nearside rear door. I have tried the search option on this forum and found nothing. Thanks.

this is getting to be a common fault now. the control unit is locared behind the spare wheel - two screws holding the unit to inner frame - two mutiplugs to be removed. Checked out sensors and control unit on mine which appeared ok therefore problem in wiring looms - havwe not bothered to spend more time on it - just disconnect the multiplugs and all will be silent

Constant tone means a fault, there is a diagnostic procedure involving removing the purple fuse/diode(?)holder thing by the pas side rear light cluster before ignition on. Then select reverse and the said unit should count out the beeps relating to which sensor, or whatever. It's along those lines anyway, as described in Tis.

Another way to diagnose is to, ignition on, select reverse, and listen/feel each sensor in turn for a clicking/tapping noise. Much like an electric fence. It's very quiet, so engine off to hear, and the correct level of pressure needs to be applied to feel the sensor ticking. No ticking, inspect that sensors wiring/connections. Ime the the plugs loom to sensor give a poor contact. Although there are numerous other causes.

Ps, a search via google, my name and this site will reveal above info in kore detail. Got the t shirt. ;)

Long thread here .. that discusses my problem .. and slowly builds up info as it came to light !!

Test sequence is on page 3

Mine still don't work - speaker is unplugged - as it would appear to be a fault in the loom from the control box to the sensors.. and it needs a warm, dry, weekend before I take the bumper off.... again !!!
