Maybe already discussed about but found this...
Any opinion Dave? ::)

Its just another variant of an FM modulator, but this one has all the sockets and connectivity built in.
Still has the same problems though as all of the other FM modulators.
Not tried one myself, but being a Kenwood, I have high hopes of it being fairly good at what it does.
-
Yes it is a FM modulator (with RDS, so "compatible" with our CID's :y), connected directly with our antenna wire, so a MP3 quality sound, without parasites I guess... And it desserves an USB plug and a 3,5 jack, and we can also convert the USB plug to an Ipod connector using an optional cable... A bit pricey here in Belgium (250€)...
So all that seems interesting now if someone has tested it, please tell us :y

Got my eye on one of these £179. hoping to aquire one in the next few weeks. will post results. :D :y

If you prefer a wireless remote, it's possible via the previous model (KOS-A200), I have found some on Ebay... I'm looking for one of these too, we will see later if it's worth or not lol

there is another way to put an aux line-in for the CDR 2005 and probably other models. here it is:
1. http://www.css-haupt.de/vectra/english.html
easier, works through the CD-player. it simulates that the audio signal comes from the cd. you must put a data cd or an audio cd full with one 74min track of silence. I made mine like this, put a a data cd and it works perfectly. and I ran an audio cable to the (not sure how it's called) glove-box between the seats and place my mp3 player by the hand brake.
2. you can use the built-in line in for telephone, but the output is only to the front speakers and low sound quality, so - no good.
3. http://www.css-haupt.de/vectra/zwei/cdr2005_line_in_tel.html
a bit more soldering action, but the best result. it uses the telephone line-in (and not the cd), but sends the audio signal to the main pre-amp of the unit. so you get sound to all speakers and hi/lo/bal/fad tweaks.
I use the first option for over an year now and it's great so far. when I did mine the third option was not yet 'invented', but I'd recommend it. the soldering part is pretty easy, but you must do it carefully, unplug the soldering iron before soldering on the unit's pcb... etc...
good luck
ps. You mean AUX INPUT, not OUTPUT, right?
-
Yes I mean AUX INPUT of course. Dave will explain better than me but this solution is not the best because the poor quality of sound that we can have... That's what I thought understand... Your link has been already posted somewhere on the OOF :y
-
That link has been around for a while, and although many have tried it, those that managed to achieve the modification without damage to the unit have often complained about the exceptionally poor quality sound as a result.
I know that there are precious few alternatives, but I really can`t recommend this one myself.

This option looks more promising in that (from my understanding of the German text ::)) he's managed to bypass the filtering of the phone input so that a stereo signal can be connected and switched by the mute input. Sound quality shouldn't be an issue, at least.
I'm half tempted to give something like this a go, but the other half of me says just buy a modern head unit with bluetooth, USB hard drive support, etc. :-/
Of course, most people probably wouldn't want to attempt surgery on their head unit anyway.

I Have a cunning plan forming involving a 'guinnea pig' NCDC currently on Holiday in Brackley.....
The downside of this solution would presumably be that you would render the Phone input as unusable if you were listening to the external source - or at least you'd have two inputs mixed together. :-/

You mean that one with the front hanging off ;D
I was toying with some kind of kludge involving the CDC audio wires, gayPhone, and fooling the vertical board into giving correct feedback back to NCDC section... ...but then I only tend to listen to the wireless, so 4 CDs last me ages ;D

That front was perfect when I left it with you..... honest ;D

The lack of phone input could be worked around with an external box that switches in the phone audio when the phone asserts the mute line, or MP3 player otherwise.
I'm wondering about removing the tape player from my 2006 and working out how that's switched though. Seeing as I'd rather listen to my blowing exhaust than a cassette. ;D

I have a CDR2005, a CCR2006 and an NCDC2013 that i've left with TB to have a play with (He's decoding it and has yet another Telematics that i've acquired to have a dabble with), You are welcome to borrow any / all of this kit to experiment on for an Audio Input solution.
The only head unit I'm interested in in the long term is the 2013 as a spares / swap resource as both my cars and Janes car have 2013/15's fitted so it's nice to have some parts! That said, you are welcome to experiment on it
Oh and I have the MID and GID screens for the HU's if required!

Thanks. :y I will bear that in mind if I get the bit between my teeth.

I just want to add that the sound quality of the options including soldering is as good as it can be and the conversion is pretty easy and harmless, I did it myself in half an hour
