Title: CD SAFE message 2ltr CDX
Post by: LVMYOmega on 03 June 2011, 15:09:52
I disconnected the battery to fit a new starter motor on reconnecting to start car had the usual code message. I entered the code, the radio and tape work fine, but still get the CD Safe message. Any ideas? Also noticed when I went for a drive that the speedo does not work. Could the problems be connected?

No problems are not connected.

Although you have entered the code for the radio, you may need to enter a different code for your CD Changer.

If you do not have the code, let me know the model details and I will try to point you in the right direction

If its a seperate CD Changer in the boot, that has its own code.

If its a CD Changer built into the headunit, thats a fault with the changer.

Not quite, that message would be CDC-SAFE and not CD-SAFE as per OP

Thanks for all the help. Found the CD code on my car pass and via the audio book found out how to enable the CD. I did try disconnecting the battery again to re-enter the code and when I did get the CD working I had to use the car and low and behold the speedo is working again. I have had a month of problems, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor ( due to heat damage to cable insulation )and a new starter motor. The first new starter I fitted shattered the casing on the flywheel end had to buy another because the motorfactors said I must have fitted it incorrectly. Have since found someone else who had the same problem. He went to the trouble of removing the auto box to check the ring gear etc. He then took his broken starter back to the supplier who agreed the casting must have had a defect and gave him another free of charge. Hope these cautionary tales help others.
