Title: Error code = EGR valve out of range on "My Naff Code Reader"
Post by: Shark1e on 01 July 2011, 23:02:16
Hi all,

My tractor seems to have lost some of the umpthhhh lately, this was chipped over a year a go, but seems to lack the pull as it did,  it still goes some but something is not right.
plugged in my "My Naff Code Reader" to get a fault code of =

96 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve out of range.

does anyone know what this actually means?

looked on TIS200  and it says this =

 A   B-01  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE

T07   96  Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Out Of Range

Short to voltage in circuit to control unit terminal 6
Actual mass air flow value is less than "nominal mass air flow value minus 100 mg/stroke "
or

Actual mass air flow value is greater than "nominal mass air flow value plus 100 mg/stroke "
Above conditions must be fulfilled for at least 21 s .
Effect:

Exhaust gas recirculation valve is switched off
Maximum performance will be reduced.
Concerned Terminals:
6, 16

 :-? :-? :-?

thanks in advance
Rob

just to add it seems to be taking longer to start as in turning over,
if i leave the glow plugs on until i hear the relay click off then it will start normally straight away, anything less that waiting for the click and it will wind over for a sec or two before kicking in.
i replaced the heater plugs 18 months ago for bosch ones and it made no difference to the starting time, just seems harder to start now, so not sure if this is connected anywhere as both issues seemed to arrive together etc

thanks rob

Clean up the EGR, but it can throw that code when the engine simply isn't running well (for any reason).

got a feeling some of the vac pipes maybe messed up as per location for them? found larger of two on actual egr dangling down by engine block unconnected, when air is pumped into this pipe slowly via compresser it opens nice and freely and shuts too.
has anyone got a pipework layout diagram i could view please,

ps this was a new egr some 18months approx ago, i have taken off and cleaned all ports and fitted a gasket, just need to check the pipe layout now.

thanks rob

The newer EGRs have 2 pipes, blue/black to the vac solenoid on the passnger suspension turret, the black one just vents to atmosphere.

The Blue/balck vac pipe should be on the outside of egr (nearest battery).

If the EGR is sticking - remember, the TD does give it a hard time, clean it up, or blank it off to see if that resolves issue.

ok blue black now on far right nearest battery
2nd black from egr is dangling rear of alternator
black that was on first post now on middle, this runs to the vac check valve by injectors,
other black which is far left goes to a clear fuel filter type filter and just vents out the to to atmosphere too!

ran "My Naff Code Reader" and cleared faults and no more code 96, ran up the road and maybe just me but seems better, will have to keep my eye on mpg as it was down a fair bit since this problem. did run "My Naff Code Reader" after came back and it was there again but cleared and it went away on refresh so bit of a mad one.

so hopefully that sort it self now,  :y
done bonnet cable adjustment  :y
now to replace my horns as they have both gone, got power but no pap pap sound  :'(

thanks again mate

looking to dump egr valve, anyone know if there is a workshop on here for doing this please, also where in the "My Naff Code Reader" menus would i find the egr setting to turn it on or off? i'm guessing i have to disable the egr once blanked off.
have looked but nothing came back except my post.

thanks rob

Simple mate you need 2x10p pieces undo the stainless pipe that go's between the EGR  valve and exhaust and slot the 10p's in the hole and re-attach Egr pipe.(both ends the same) :y
Another point let the GP relay click off always before starting from cold. :y

Shark1e, you can't disable the EGR in the codereader you mention & you don't need to! Just blank off the gas ports either with the 10p pieces mentioned in another answer or use a proper blanking plate available on e-bay & elsewhere. Just for info, we are not allowed to discuss the aforementioned codereader as it is  copied/cloned & therefore 'untouchable' as far as OOF is concerned ;) :y
