Title: HID dipped beam - how to replace?
Post by: vincedomingo on 25 July 2011, 09:46:24
I've A 2002 ( 52 Plate) 2.2 auto saloon. I've had it from new so know its history.
Computer tells me headlight fail. Thats corrrect|
So I assumed the bulb was a D2S type. The dipped light is the type with a seprate lens - a projector?
But when I take it apart, theres a small black box, twist out and pull, an odd looking connector/insulator appears. Theres no way this can fit a D2S bulb.
I can't find any reference to other bulb types - are there any? This must have been on since new......

Are you certain that your have HID lights? You can projector lights without them being HID. Do you have the ability manually level them via a dial on the main light switch? If so, they aren't HID.  :y

Good point - I'm assuming the piece I see is a high voltage connector - its about 2 inches long, white , 1/4 inch diamter. Its the fact you have to take a square box off about 2 inch cube with it the only reason I could see for that is that is the ballast and electronics for the bulb.
I do have manual adjustment for the lights in the car.

When the piece above is removedther is a hole left and nothing comes out of there there are no bulb, connector or anything. Maybe this is a motor drive to change postion and I've not taken the bulb out at all? I did photgraph it.

I suspect you don't have HIDs, a photo would help  :y  HIDs take a second or two to 'warm up' when you first switch them on.

You`ve got standard projector lights. The part you are referring to is the levelling motor
