Hi, my wiper stalk on my V reg elite estate differs from my 51 plate one in the fact that the newer one does not have the thumbdial for the variable speed or the two buttons for the information system. Also they look differant.
Was the newer version fitted with auto wipers (I've noticed the screen has been changed as it is the only glass not to have the GM mark on)
Can i only access the mpg etc information by using the infotainment system which i have to have on with the radio turned right down.
I tried fitting a replacement arm with the thumb wheel version but the variable intermittent still did not work. Also there was no plug for the two end button connector to join into
If the screen was changed and the sensor was not included / replaced can i make the car have variable intermittent wipers as its one of those little gadgets you miss when you dont have them

It sounds like your car may have originally been fitted with rain sening wipers and someone hasnt put the sensor onto the new screen ? It sits under the rearview mirror inside the plastic cowling.
If it turns out you need one Im pretty sure twiglet has a spare sensor - as I had the mirror it was connected to. ;)

If you have the NCDC radio, the *ONLY* way to operate the screen is via the radio (or steering wheel).
The dial was removed from about 2001, irrespective if you had a rain sensor or not.

AH, I didnt know that. ::).........although my theory is still possible I suppose. :-/

If NCDC fitted the wiper stalk will have 4 settings with no rain sensor fitted, Off, intermittent, normal, fast. If sensor fitted stalk will have 5 settings, Off, sensor sweep, intermittent, normal, fast ;)

Sure about the intermittent on the rain sensor ones?

Yep, got both types of stalk here as well
Shows how much I've driven the Elite in the 13 months I've had it ::)
I will double check next time I get in it...

Don`t bother ;D My mistake, :-[ :-[ both stalks the same, the intermittent facility on sensor equipped vehicles is controlled by the sensor itself when "intermittent" is selected via the stalk. Sorry :-[ :-X

I thought that was the case, but don't drive it enough to confirm 100% ;D

Thank you for your replies.
I will investigate the sensor further.
I did try to retro fit a "new" stalk to the car but was unable to find a connector or any loose wiring in or around the steering column only the main pin connector that the body of the switch goes onto.
Looks like i may have to go down the VW route
Or just keep my older one and get rid of this one!

If your car was originally fitted with 'normal' intermittent wipe (ie not rain sensitive) there is a simple mod to fit a variable intermittent stalk.
It involves modifying the stalk wiring and changing the intermittent wipe relay (or opening up the relay and changing a resistor).
If I can find the guide I will post a link............

Found it! Retrofitting a variable delay stalk from an earlier model (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1279100997)
