your paying for the 03 plate.

Hold out for a retail MV6 or Elite.

Usual cobblers that that seller seems to talk. ::)

Depends entirely on how much of a Horlicks thay made of fitting / removing the plod gear, I reckon. I notice he only mentioned the grommets in the roof as a footnote. Cheeky. Worth watching to see what it makes, I reckon, but don't jump now.

but but... 53plate, Estate, 3.2, manual.... MOt... It's already ticking the most important boxes..  :-/

It will need

Radio
Roof Liner
Roof bars
Possibly new dash
Centre console
New centre console air duct.
Bits of trim all over the place
Some dash re-wiring

It has poverty spec cloth (not leather like the add says!) seats, no electric rear windows, cd alloys etc etc

The paintwork will be a naff blow over following de-commisioning...

Having owned an ex-plod, I know what they are like.....there excellent at the right price and 2 grand is not the right price!

Yes, but with Very hard life.

Hotel21 wouldnt touch an ex-police car......
Thats enough for me.

At least you are in a position where you can do pretty much any job

windy rear windows, interior is extra dull... full of holes. may only have the TID, not MID, not much leccy stuff, remeber you may need to budget for a new Stainless steel zorst, i seam to remember police zorst systems where different? and silly expensive.

Like i say, hold out for a retail spec MV6 or Elite

Fair enough - what would be considered on the money for this car then?

we've discussed cars advertised by this bloke before iirc they were all over priced with inconsistent adverts. Barge and poll come to mind

i would not go for it at-all mate, i would go for it if we where in 2010 and this was a nail of a shed to haul dogs.

This is going to be a car for the dogs, AND your main car, so you are going to want the toys! You will be hankering for bose, leather, and the rest  ;)

This bloke really is full of nonsense!!

If you believe the advert, you'd think that it's top spec car.

He pays no more than £1,200 from the auctions.  He does nowt apart from list them on Ebay, pocketing £800.

If you want one, get down to Witney auctions on Tue or Thu night after checking their website.

There should be a silver 3.2 53 plate ex-plod saloon coming up soon with 103k miles.  At least it had no roof bars!

Interestingly, that's where the auction seems to have bogged down, with no new bids for a couple of days.

James,

You know cars well enough, and if this was a car for someone else, what would you say?

As others have said, the description is cobblers and he is looking to make a quick profit from people who know no better.

At best that is worth £1,300 if the engine and exhaust (particularly as they have "special" downpipes and cats) are good.

As the old saying goes... "A fool and his money are easily parted".
I don't think you are a fool.... don't prove me wrong!

James - get yourself to Witney, and see what state they are in and how much they go for. Ex-plod 3.2 estates are not uncommon, and most are manual.

Hmm - this sounds like the best plan - I may have to pop over there next week :D

Are they really bad direct from the auctions?

Dont buy on first couple of visits - try to get a feel for whats going through at what price.

if the price doesn't go above about £350, I rekon this could be worthwhile, even if the seller is a muppet:

The desired Auto Transmission

That'll be the "extremely rare" type with 3 pedals that was never available to joe public then. ;D

Is his description wrong, can he just not be bothered to update it to the car he's describing or are the pictures not actually of the right car?  :-/

He's clearly too lazy to try to crank the engine over by hand to establish if it really is siezed solid and then change the starter motor to get it running.

Yep. either that or he is dumb, or just wants to make money for zero effort and is passing them on exactly how they come to him without any investigation.

At least that one is at a price where you can afford to take a punt and not worry too much about the description turning out to be cobblers.

Yes, I may have a punt for, say, £400 - hope it's something easy - and if not, I can't really lose..

I have spare 3.0 heads almost built...

Only PITA would be if it's thrown a rod through the block, or something!

You seem hell bent on buying an ex plod car James, Why :-? Having managed a fleet of police vehicles and witnesed at first hand how they are treated i stand alongside Hotel 21 in saying dont touch one with a very long pole. For a little more money you can find a much better speced civi car without all the trappings an ex plod car brings with it and providing it comes with a FSH will have been maintained to the same high standard. An ex police car will come cheep, cost a lot to put back to some sort of standard and will fetch only penuts when you come to sell it again.
My advice for what its worth...........Walk away with your money

Personally, I would not buy one for my day to day, polish it every weekend car, but AT THE CORRECT PRICE would do that I can use and abuse in a similar fashion that it spent its working life, fully aware that it is a 'disposable' car that I need not weep tears over when it gets dented in the carpark....

As a workhorse, why not?  Just don't get starry eyed by the reg plate/age and pay strong money....

(and the elite has lower mileage, FSH, etc etc...  )

running costs

in keeping the CDX V6, there's plenty of power in that, why spend extra over the course of time on running a huge engine in the dog carrier, after all, the dogs wont know the difference ;D

I considered bidding on that estate, too... but £750?! That'd get a decent pre-facelift MV6 that worked, surely?

(as an aside, I'd love to find a cheap non-running V6... either pre- or post-facelift, in order to have a play without fearing breaking anything... any ideas chaps? Salvage yard?
