Well its that time of the year again.
Booked the car in for her MOT on monday.
Today she had two new tyres fitted on the back and i fitted the fuel filter, another messy job out the way. washed her again so she is all clean.
Well i hope she passes i know there are lots a car can fail on but i cant see her failin (or could i be wrong......)
Did notice something while i was rollin around under the motor. at the bottom of the diff was a load of dirty greasey oilit was really thick and horrible didnt smell fresh or even look fresh. i have cleaned it up and am going to keep an eye on it over a couple of weeks to see if its leaking slightly, lots or the majority is road dirt stuck to a small build up of oil. i dont beleive its leaking lots as their are never any puddles under the car.

good luck :y :y
-
Best of luck :y
-
be lucky, lets know how it goes :y
-
Fingers crossed :y, you can never tell with an M.O.T. think the car's perfect and then they'll go and fail it on some silly little thing.

well i have checked the obvisous, the only Advisorys i got last year:
1. Drivers seat belt sometimes difficult to release under load.
2. N/S front brake juddering slightly
3. N/S rear seat belt not checked as child seat fitted.
MOT done at 98406 mile she is currently at 106000.
Was informed on last service that she had plenty of wear left on the brake discs and pads. Cos i asked them to change them and the bloke said to me that they were fine and it was a waste of money to change them.......which i was gob smacked at cos it was VX doing the service and MOT. (Ok i know WTF.....was i thinkin putting my car in a VX garage???? i didnt have the time, space or facilites at the time to do it my self)

ok got my beast back she did get an advisory well .....
003 near side front lower(rear) suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.
004 off side front lower(rear) suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.
how easy are these to do?? and how much will it cost me?
-
They are wishbone bushes Marie.
Pretty straightforward (replace the whole wb). I think Buypartsby does a good deal - others will confirm.
Replacement is pretty straightforward although there is a b@stard pinch bolts to loosen off.
Need geometry afterwards too.
-
arh right i had one of these changed in 2006. it is a GM one to how long are they ment to last?
think the OOF need to organsie a wheels in motion geometry weekend. ;D ;D ;D
-
its critical that the bolts are tightened with the car on its wheels, otherwise the bushes are stressed when the car is lowered. It that wasn't done correctly it will lead to premature bush failure.
The GM wb's are darn expensive I recall - don't know if they last any longet though.
-
well i have the feelin thaat the bloke who did them for me didnt do the job correctly.
i say this cos i have found other parts of his work not upto scratch. such as cambelt 2 teath out, and exhust manifold one of the bolts not tightened.
is begining to make me wonder whether he actually managed to repair the car correctly after the cambelt snapped feb 06....... :-/ :-/
think he was in it for the money rether then the love of working on omegas.

cheers not a bad price at all. know where to go now.
As the bloke said to me today they dont need doing just jet i would wait a couple of months first.
well my plan is to do the wish bones with a few months but need to figure out when i can get to wheels in motion to get the geometry test done staright after.
-
I know everyone rates WIM, but Micheldever Tyres have a pretty good setup for geometry, knowledgable guys and maybe closer for you. They certainly sorted out my estate which was all over the place beforhand.

they are closer and i have a mate in reading, its just getting the time off work they are being a bit an*l at the mo about time off!
-
After the work you have been doing Marie, the front wishbones will be a piece of cake. Whilst you are at it i would recommend you change the droplinks as well ;)
Glad she passed for you :y
-
i might just do that to. Thankyou
well for now it will have to wait as i have other bigger things to worry about.

Wheels In Motion and I are in regular contact about the 'Knowledge Day' where WIM will be open purely for OOF one Sunday, and will randomly pick cars to be aligned for free! :D. The idea being that OOF members are learning about the geometry issues that affect Omegas.
Unfortunatley, delays in WIM getting their new centre ready has pushed this back significantly :(

gutted :( :( :( :( have they not got any idea of when. i am prepared to wait for WIM to do it if it happens before may as after that date i will only get to see my car every other weekend as hubby is going to be using it to commute from gosport to yeovil, somerset.

Its still looking like 3 weeks before the centre opens, I suspect it will be a few weeks after that, but we're both keen to get it arranged asap.

On the 'knowledge day' there is no guarantee yours will get done, and in interests of fairness, no bribes/payments/exceptions will be made - its purely reg-out-of-hat.
Also, as I'll be pulling said names out on the day, my cars will no be in their to prove no funny business.

I bumped into an Omega owner the other day who said that the tyre place by the station in Farnham did a good job of sorting out his camber issues. Still not desperately close to you but better. :-/
Depends what technician you get on the day, though, I suspect. WIM is the only dead cert. to sort it out.

And now I think the bloody starter is playing up. I've just filled it on the way home from work, turned the key with just side lights on, and it it JUST started! :-? Got home and tried it agin with full lights & interior fan on & f*** all! >:(
The juice is there in the battery, you can see the heads lights being drawn down, no charge light. At least if I can't see owt wrong with it in the morning I'll have the comfort & (expence) of the Omega to go to work in. ;)
