Title: Front calipers - all the same ?
Post by: albitz on 28 September 2011, 09:48:47
Mattmv6 needs a front caliper in a hurry. Iirc his car is mini facelift (or possibly facelift) 2.5v6.
I have an early facelift 2.5v6 which I can take a caliper off for him.Did the calipers change at all over the years or are they all the same.I think I know the answer, but want to be certain, as I wouldnt want to send him one which didnt fit, and therefore keep his car off the road longer than need be.
Tia.

I believe it was only early 2.0s that had different size brakes on the front. Calipers may have changed manufacturer, I suppose, but I doubt there will be any difference between facelift and mini-facelift as things will have settled down that late in production.

No, there are two distinct types. They are both silmilar but the earlier type has the silly spring clips on the outside of the caliper. the later type, as fitted to my 2000 2.5 facelift has two bolts, top and bottom which screw into the adjusting sliders. Good design but the sliders sieze if the little rubber boots are lost. Pads are different too.  :)

Only pre 1997.5 2.0's had different calipers
