yeah, i'd like some expensive ones.... But .....
so, Nankang NS2 any good? (4 x 235x45x17 for £236 sounds okay?)
-
Not a fan of Nankang ditchfinders myself :-X
In that price range I'd be looking at Accellera Alpha's or Neuton NT5000 (only available from Neo Bros either ebay or direct) and get them fitted locally. I've had both these on Omega's (although the Neuton's are currently fitted to the rear and first time) and they're a reasonable compromise IMO. I'd certainly be tempted to try the Neuton's on the front too as (so far) they seem to be pretty good :-\
But tyres are an area where you really shouldn't scrimp ;)
As an aside, the Neuton's are also M+S rated ;)
-
it's currently wearing cheap ass admirals.... and actually they've been kind of okay .... they were on it when i bought it, and were not new then..... and i've had it a year, done another 10-12,000 and they're still , just barely, legal....
but seeing as she's having all new shocks and new rear springs..... and new wishbones, and new drop links, and new rear bushes.....
new tyres would only be fair...
-
when you find out how much new original part rear springs on an MV6 estate cost... , you'll know why i'm trying to find a balance between cost and quality....
even from AndyC , they're still eye watering
(but the shocks are very reasonable.... much cheaper than i thought... )
-
that said £255 for 4 delivered is okay.....
any other recommendations, before i buy a set of these neutons?

I understand that completely ;)

just stuck a set of Nexen N6000's on some 17"s destined for an Elite, not driven them much yet, but so far they are quiet and smooth, grip is fine, although not pushed them yet. They were £90 a corner :y

Indeed... Probably be around £300 by the time you've had them fitted and, like I say, for a "budget" tyre I am impressed (so far) ;)

Re springs, if you want to keep that specific ride hight and quality, there really is no alternative to oe from vx. I guess there simply aren't enough mv6 lsc cars on the road to warrant aftermarket manufacturers making them.
Re tyres Alphas seem a popular choice at that end of the market.

Yep, although I'm leaning towards these Neuton's as a better choice than the Alpha's ;)
Really need to get them swapped onto the front to test the stopping power of them before I'd give an all out recommendation though :y
-
And as you know, I don't exactly drive like Miss Daisy so I am quite demanding on my tyres :-X :-X ::) ::)
-
alphas at 60 quid delivered per donut..
not bad.... is there anyone with an opinion on whether the neutons are better or worse than the alpha??
, any more suggestions...??
once all the work is done, and the MOT secured.... i will probably have a trip to WIM in mind.... as long as they're not offended by the budget tyres. i'd like to buy them from them.... but they're not really near enough , bearing in mind i probably need these for the MOT
-
leaning towards the neutons....
i'm no miss daisy either.....
although more sedate than in past years, thanks to the price of fuel, and having a clean license for the first time in 10 years...
-
TBH, with the difference in price we're talking about I'd have a (slight) "gamble" on the Neuton's. The ones on the rear of mine are certainly sure footed when thrown about and seem to be holding the road well.
Like I said, I haven't got them on the front (Alpha's on the front) yet but on paper they are the better tyre of the 2 ;)

one set of 4 neutons ordered and paid for.

Keep us (or particularly me!) updated on how you find them... If they work well I may be tempted to go for them in future instead of SC3's
-
i'm rather hoping to find them.....
on my car every morning when i go out..... ;D

Very good... But that depends on whether you live in a dodgy area or not ;) ;D

Not done that for ages... ...almost a week ::)

believe it or not, i live round the corner, but i've NEVER been....
dunno whether to be proud, or depressed....... ???

tyres are here..... woo hoooo,,.,

Its not fantastic, but not bad. Run-of-the-mill buffet.
Now, Liasons near the Westgate do a fantastic sweet and sour chicken. A-la-carte menu only, no buffet. And not cheap (when me and my bro go, with the girls tagging along, its rare to get change from £200)

I struggle with budget tyres, but the price of rubber has got ridiculous recently.
Still, I guess with LPG, I'm saving elsewhere...

I was shocked to find that Toyo's are £140 a corner in my sizes! Egads. I'll be fitting something cheaper once it gets WIMmed :(

Myself & several other Oofers await your opinion of a fullset of these Neutons :y They seem to have some good reports
Have Alphas on mine, and am very pleased with them, Had them on previous Miggy as well,
But . . . then I DO drive like Miss Daisy ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I got Toyo T1 Sports 235/45/17 from WIM at £98.33 + VAT each 2 weeks ago !!

Hmm, indeed! £112 on their website - a lot more from mytyres.co.uk, and they're usually a good indicator.. apparently not anymore!
-
Not sure it's a fair evaluation yet but I'm finding the Neuton's will let go more easily than I had hoped :( :(
I don't think the wallowy Elite suspension is helping though... Fairly sure some of the problem is unloading of the inside rear wheel when "Pressing on" around roundabouts :-\ :-\
-
After 7-8k of Dunlop Sport MAXX TT, I really like the dry grip levels, the wet grip levels are good. The wear is not great though.
After about 200 miles of Sun-wi ditchfinders, the grip level in the dry is best described as "challenging", in the wet, "pointless" ;D
-
Well, I have a set of Elite alloys fitted with almost new tyres.I think the make is Jimny or something similar. They will be going on my car in the spring,so I will evalute just how good they are and report back. :y :o ;D ;D ;D

You're not likely to test them as hard as I do though :-X :-X ;) ;)

Not overly impressed with the Alpha's I've got on the front either... Had good results from them in the past but not so impressed this time :-\ :-\
That said, the handling is a little interesting at the moment... Need to do the suspension and front discs, particularly after my last run up the A43 :-[ :-[

Wouldnt bank on it - when the mood takes me,which isnt that often these days. Finally learned I dont need to go flat out everywhere. Its called getting old. ::) ;D

I just seem to be running late all the time at the moment :-[ :-[

Black and round (extra loads and NOT remoulds) £55 + VAT each. Only last 10-12k, but that is 8-10 weeks. Not sure that I could swallow £400 every couple of months. :-\

Know that feeling ::), still best car for it :y

For the miles I do and the the way I do them, I can't go past Goodyear f1's. Currently the assymetrics rather than my preferred but NLS GSD3's. Put two on the back last week for £130 per corner.
Excellent grip and response, wet or dry, and reasonable mileage considering the (ab)use they get! :-X :y

I used to compromise because of my reasonably high mileage (25-30k/year) but that should drop considerably now so I expect the next set of tyres will be more grippy ::) I have to take advice from people who I know have a similar driving style so experiences of TB, Gayboy and yourself come high up in my list of priorities ;)
-
I'm not in the habit of leaving expensive rubber on garage forecourts just because they have run out of jammie dodgers but do like to have the reassurance that the grip is there when I need it most. ;)

Yes, well... We all know he has "anger issues" :D :D :D
I don't like to leave rubber on the ground anywhere but, like you, I need to know the grip is there when I need it ;)

oh, Mr hotel, you are sooooooo wrong. Jammie dodgers they would have. In fact, they always have everything you need in hour weekly shop. But fuel, oil, automotive bulbs? That's where the trouble starts.
they are useless, pointless, thick, retarded, stupid, inbred, rather retards

how come I have a monk on, just because Highlander mentioned the local BP
-
Having seen the state of the tyres on your "clown car" the other day... Might be cheaper to use another garage. ;D
...i bet they turn tne pump off when they see him pull up, and all the staff go on a brake to make the queues longer. ;D

The local BP is on the TB "one man boycott campaign" for that very reason.....
