having difficulty with removing a track rod end. Can't find(again) my joint splitter. In the absence of that I have been Plus gassing the joint (top and above the rubber gaiter) for the last two days. have also tried two hammers though without dismantling the hub there isn't much room.I am also a bit wary of the wheel bearing becoming damaged?! Also tried some direct heat although that is difficult without setting the gaiter on fire.
I am now thinking either go to bar for beer or putting the nut on but not tight and going for a drive and checking periodically if it has "separated".
Would that work?, I have some suitable gravel/stone roads nearby. Any other suggestions? My fall back plan is to send off for a ball joint separator off EBay uk and just wait.

You've tried everything I would Varche, I think a new splitter is the answer. :y

Possibly try to take the front end weight on a slightly slackened nut, hoping it would push the taper up? If you were also, safely, able to give it to give it a 'technical' tap at the same time, it might be sufficient to do it. :y
