Title: Which one best for towing
Post by: sticka_v8_init on 02 October 2011, 09:27:46

Hiya fellas, got a query which i hope i can get advice on.

Currently have a 2.5 manual estate with 170,000 miles which i only use for towing a caravan. The car is starting to feel & sound past its best to be honest. Have seen a 2.5 TD auto estate for sale so was wondering which car would be a better tow car for a caravan weighing 1150Kg. Is the auto box prone to faults? Is it suitable for towing my caravan or would it struggle? Would it lend itself to tuning without wrecking the box.....or am i better looking for another V6 manual. Any advice much appreciated?
Cheers  :y

I don't think any Omega will struggle with that load, but a TD needs the autobox changing before any tuning is done. The AR25 they were fitted with is marginal with a standard engine.

I personally would be looking for a manual one.

I've had many V6 petrol Omega's and i've considered keeping one or two of them and getting rid of my diesel but I can't because the fuel economy and torque of the diesel (its chipped and a manual) makes it a better towing car IMHO ;)
