Heater bypass valve. sits at the back of the engine.black plastic thing, looks like a little starship enterprise.has coolant pipes going into it. I believe they are around £35 from VX.not really hard to change, just need pliers to squeeze the hose clips to reomove the hoses.A bit awkward to get at though. Need to remove the wipers and scuttle panel really. :y

Along the bottom of the windscreen?

They turn through 90 degrees and then lift out. Once the first one has come out it'll be obvious. :y

These work fine because they grip the clip and won't let go until you're ready - Halfords and various other places sell them:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-3397-Hose-Clip-Pliers/dp/B0039UHIIA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317652472&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-3397-Hose-Clip-Pliers/dp/B0039UHIIA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317652472&sr=8-1)

I'm told these are even better but haven't tried them:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-89793-Remote-Hose-Pliers/dp/B000PJ8GXO/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1317652557&sr=1-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-89793-Remote-Hose-Pliers/dp/B000PJ8GXO/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1317652557&sr=1-1)

Don't be afraid to give the whole thing a good tug to get it closer to where you can access it.  And don't forget where each pipe connects.

Best of luck  :y

It wont matter if your a bit brutal in getting the old one off.use some kind of lube on the ends of the hoses when putting the new one on and it should be easy enough.Shame there isnt someone nearby to lend a hand or give a bit of advice.
Expect a few cuts and grazes when youve finished though, thats part of the HBV changing job.Hands can be forced into places they shouldnt really fir if your determined enough. ;) :)

thats me done i can not get in there i hate those clips i will change them when i get them of to the ones u can do up with a socket
Title: Re: cooling
Post by: albitz on 03 October 2011, 18:01:20
And if you overtighten the ones you can do up with a socket you will break the pipe inlets on the new HBV. ;)
I think you need to get hold off a pair of long nose mole grips or pliers to help you get the clips off. :y
