the hbv is done but still got a leak from the back off engine
-
its worth checking all the coolant pipes, even a tiny split can pi$$ water everywhere. Common one is the one of the coolant bridge :y
-
Oil cooler was changed a few months ago.Im wondering if the mechanic has used the wrong sealant or reused dowty washers or similar. :-\
Need a good torch and possibly a mirror, then take some time and try to see where its coming from. After that its plenum off,and if source cant be seen, the cooling system will need pressurising to see the leak. Pressurising might just be a matter of someone blowing hard into the neck of the header tank, while someone else looks for water spurting out. ;)
-
the selant was from vx
-
what about dowty washers?
You going to have to take off the plenum and injection manifold, inspect all around the oil cooler and coolant bridge for signs of a leak
-
i have never taken the pleneum off
-
i have never taken the pleneum off
Well, if you want to find the source of your coolant loss, you will have to. Otherwise i will have to be taken to a garage :(

Its not difficult to do Ralf,as long as you have a set of torx sockets ? Just follow the guide,be methodical, take your time, and stuff kitchen roll or similar in the ports until your ready to put the plenum back on.If you drop a bolt or similar down one of the ports it could be a head off job.
-
well i cut my finger anyway and the car is going back to the guy who done the oilcooler
-
dowdy washers from vx as well
-
Start with the simpler things - a leak from a hose.May well need to remove plenum and inlet manifold to see it though.
-
its going back to the guy who done oilcooler
-
just drove car down to the guy who done oilcooler got there at had no water dripping down weird or what

HBV's have a tendency to only leak when in a certain position, and that position is dictated by a combination of the ambient temperature, the actual temperature inside the car, and the selected temperature inside the car.
Might be worth lying with the selected temperature whilst the engine is running .. you may find the leak that way.
-
done that after changing hbv valve was dry but still water dripping until today when i drove it there was none dripping
-
can anyone in south wales take a plenum off for me dont mind paying for it
-
well it looks like the guy is letting me down now text him twice not got back to me he must be getting to much money

The plenum is held on by just 4 Torx drive bolts & the bagpipes at the front of the car ;)
-
havent got the sockets so cant do job

buy a set, they're not too expensive & they'll come in for other jobs. ;) Halfords (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_176391_langId_-1_categoryId_255215)

best way is to get rid of car and save money

best way is to get rid of car and ......
Your call ........... a bit excessive for a £35 valve.
The plenum can stay put for doing a HBV, it's the plastic scuttle tray & wiper arms that need removing.
-
done hbv was not the fault
-
and i cant do a lot off work on the car now no grip in the hands anymore hands are gone with arthritis

Bigyin, if I was any good with the spanners mate, I'd be all too happy to help out, wherever you are?
I've got the sockets, just not the skill, but I'm off Thursday and I'll gladly give it a go if you want, seems like a pretty simple job

Not hard to do.Take plenum (and possibly manifold off) to try to see where water is leaking from.Might be a case of one person blowing hard into the header tank while the other looks for water spurting from somewhere.
Should be plenty of info in the guides section on removing/ refitting plenum. :y
-
= Can Iassume that your texts were to James :-\
Nope, I've not been in contact with anyone about any problems, or had any texts?
The OP did make contact last night though, so happy to see if I can help.
:y
-
Bigyin54 - just checked, and you are 53 miles from me.
Would your car make it that far? At what rate is it leaking, and is it pressurising or running hot?
If you could get it to me, I'll take an initial look free of charge, which will include any obvious leaks that can be fixed whilst plenum is off.
Cheers
James

Hello mate, I sent you a PM also - I may, possibly, have trouble this weekend. My rad is also dumping coolant!!
I'm going to have to talk nicely to RobG about posting a radiator out to me, cos I don't think I'd make it to Bristol now ::)

I could collect that in person, once I've fitted the Rad and have a roadworthy car? ;D
