Title: Finally got the van sorted and working well (Pic heavy)
Post by: Del Boy on 09 October 2011, 18:32:41
Well after 4 weeks in total of being in Vauxhall's technicians care, my van was finally sorted last week. Basically my local dealership simply would not carry out any warranty work on the van, basically because they have a problem with me and a few other people for some reason. Anyway I took it to the best dealership I've come across, FG Barnes of Maidstone. They were thoroughly helpful and carried out the work which Caffyns of Ashford wouldn't do in the same day, which was a sticking brake calliper, and the van was suffering huge amounts of white smoke when cold, so they kept it overnight done their investigating the next day and found faulty injectors. Anyway they kept the van for just over a week fitted new injectors and I picked it up. Although when I picked it up it was diesel knocking like an absolute pig, so they took it back investigated the issue again and found the new injectors were also faulty.

Now due to my van being the VXS model it is remapped from the factory, so FG Barnes contacted Vauxhall technical who told them to remove the map to see if that cured the fault, it didn't so new injectors were ordered and fitted, and of course the knocking was cured, at this point I thought great but I'm now left with a standard van and a worthless bunch of VXS stickers. Anywho, this is the only problem FG Barnes have caused me, basically they said they'd get the map put back on and contact me within a week, and when asked to put this is writing, they refused, which I thought was quite bad, as did Vauxhall. So I got in contact with the supplying dealer of the van Seward Vans in Dorset, who said, the man who does the remapping for us actually comes to Kent quite often so we'll give you his number and you can go from there (Sewards have also been extremely helpful here too). So got in contact with the man who works for Thorney Motorsport who do the mapping and he was coming to my area last week, so met up with him map loaded back on within 15 minutes and I left a very happy gentleman.

Me and this van had, had quite a heated relationship since purchasing it back in May, basically because it's been in Vauxhall more than my older 2008 55,000 mile van ever was and this being a year old in June and only having covered 19,000 miles, I was getting quite short with it and losing all interest. Now it's back fully functioning properly, I had to sort the handling out, because it's very fast not just for a van, but it's been on a rolling road and produced 206.7 BHP, and obviously being a van there's nothing in the back so it's pretty light, so it was treated to a set of coilovers (fully adjustable on the ride height) and it now handles as well as it goes, so coilovers on, fully aligned and we're in business. Now if you've read this far, thanks here's some pictures  ;D

Coilovers going on (Only the rears, fronts were more tricky hence no photos  ;D)

It handled like a pig due to the alignment being so far out so here were the results from the alignment very scary how far out it was :o

Much better and all sorted:

Met up with my good old mate for a coffee:

And then a huge amount of polishing went on that afternoon, so we're now properly back in business  :D

Me thinks they screwed up with the first set of injectors and didn;t set them up!

Those 'coilovers' always make me laugh as there not coilovers, just a brand name!

What have they done to the gearbox though Del so it does not have more than the maximum rate 320Nm?

Naff all, it's got a very very slight whine actually  :-\ The last one needed a new gearbox too.

No surprise realy, the standard engine maxes out the 320Nm and adding any form of tuning tips them way over.

That's it, bad idea really, is it right they couldn't fit the F40 gearbox in?

Yup, F40 is a little tight!

The Vec and Signum got the F40 as standard and the new Astra with the 2.0 CDti alos has the F40.

The compromise would be to restrict power in 1st, 2nd and 3rd (where its not needed as much)

I try to limit the amount of power as much as possible in 1st & 2nd.
