i would of thought electrical gremlin to bring up the message but no harm in checking oil level :y
-
get the codes checked but wouldn't be suprised if it was the EGR valve
-
Any codes in engine or gearbox?
Also, worth checking/replacing ATF

On the 4-pots, yes. :y OP doesn`t state what engine :-\

Yes, the EGR valve can do this, so can the cam shaft position sensor. Both can send the gear box into limp home mode. It forces you to get the codes checked. Something that happened after it was realised that so many people will ignore a warning light if the car appears to be running ok, Quoted from a vauxhall master technician!

i will get the code checked should be in memory ? running fine for last 183 miles.
