Hello OOF
I've been using this site for info for a couple of years now usually finding it after googling something about my car. So basically I've been skulking around in the shadows reaping information as a guest. Thought it was time to register although the reason I haven't before is that I felt it unlikely that I can be of much use to anyone else, not really one for spamming up the universe of car forums just for the sake of typing. I tend to be pretty busy most of the time.
I have owned my V-2000 2.5 CDX estate for about 2 1/2 years and although I once had intentions of making it my pride and joy it has become a proper work horse. Now tatty as hell and gobbling up funds on essential maintenance it will never be anything other than a means to and end.... poor thing.
I'm no mechanic but can tackle most things that a basic engineering/mechanical understanding can see me through on. I've done things like rear wheel bearing, wishbones, fitted tow bar, brakes, coil pack, oil breather clearing, track rods etc and had help from my brother on other jobs like getting rid of those crappy plastic cam covers, oil cooler change, thermostat, cam belt, etc.
Having just put some second hand bits on it as part of the pre MOT check up (many thanks Steve @ http://www.omegaspareparts.com/ for a great service and discount) I'm now troubled by the gearbox and diff. I will be posting up in due course for advice if I cant find anything by searching.
When it dies I hope to get a later one and keep it nice. 3.2 MV6 would be good :)
Sorry for being so boring and catcha later.
Jason

Most folk here would agree though that binning the plastic cam covers isnt the way forward.Crank seal may be the next thing to go now. ;)

Albs, Yeah I've heard people say that, the change was partly due the cost of new plastic ones being silly and didn't want to risk another set of plastic ones that were second hand and fatigued. We'd already tried getting the plastic ones to seal a couple of times (after thouroughly clearing the breathers), they looked a bit tired though but I imagined most second hand ones to be the same. Just couldn't afford to spend any more time trying with them. Each time they lasted about 500 miles before seeping again. I take it V6 vectras have a different breather system/are not prone to blocking?
Sorry I'll go find the right area to discuss this when I get a moment.
Right better go lay underneath it and get all depressed once more.
Thanks for the replies :)
