I can only open the bonnet when someone is pushing down on the bonnet whilst someone is operating the lever.
It seems that the cable needs to be tightened! what's the best way to sort this? Cheers :y

just have a look & make sure the plastic covers near the ecu & battery are seated down right & not impeding the bonnet from shutting correctly. from experience ( twice) its been the cause of my bonnet to stick

I had the same problem and when I took it for its mot the mechanic used a white spray grease on the mechanism to lubricate under the slam panel while I kept pulling and releasing the lever in the car that was in April and it still works fine. :y

Follow the guide as posted by Rob, but also make sure that the pin/pointed thingy in the middle of the bonnet (does it have a name? ) goes centrally into the latch in the slam panel. If the locknut is slackened, you can move the pin around slightly to line it up if needed.

Had the same problem with mine when I bought it, followed the guide on how to fix it, works perfectly now :y.

I've often wondered, and prayed it would never happen, if and how it would be possible to open a bonnet if the cable snapped? Can't imagine that would be much fun.

That's easy :)
Just put your finger's in the grill, and then pull the grill of the car ;D
Then you can get to the lever that the cable ataches to 8)
Had to do that to my pre F/L when the battery died on me, at -20 in the winter. (dead lock engaged)
Was so cold, the grill shattered into small pieces ;D So I'm never deadlocking again ;D
