It seems that the silencing fibers are coming from my exhaust at a fair rate, when I park in work I have a new load hanging out of the exhaust.
Should I keep pulling it out?
Do I need a new back box ?
-
Yep you need a new back box - the eventual effect of the wadding coming out for others has ranged from "It got loud" to "There was an enormous bang and then the back box exploded"..
Eternalcar (on ebay) seems to be recommended from time to time, although a couple of folks reported fitment issues recently.

Oh Sh** :o

Exploded makes it sound worse than it is, really.. the whole thing just sort of peels open like a tin of sardines (and the remains of the wadding falls out) - that's if the wadding happens to block the pipe, of course.
-
So I should definitely pull it out then incase I cause it to block, you never know it might stop coming out :)

.. and if it does split, make sure that the escaping hot gases aren't going to melt a hole in the plastic fuel tank just next to it. :o

Pull it out. :y This happened to mine and it lost a hell of a lot of power until I discovered why.Bent a hook on the end of an old wire coat hanger and fished it out with that. The car then ran OK (but a little noisier) until a changed the box a few months later. :y

Then it could EXPLODE!!!.... lol.... (joke)
Wouldn't be good melt a hole in the tank but I very much doubt it could happen.... Unless anybody has seen this of course???

Yep, it's happened. That's why I mention it. ;)

YES!!!
Driving back from scotland on m6. Rear box was split . Eventually burnt huge hole in fuel tank. Lost 90 quid of fuel on the road between 2 junctions. I will never know how it didn't blow up...
-
I had confidence before tha last few posts, I will be there tomorrow with my wire :y

Didn't know about the exploding bit, but my old saloon rear box started shedding it's guts. I kept pulling it out til it run out and kept the car running. I never had an issue with it at all, guess I was extremely lucky ::)

That's why yours didn't explode ;) ;) It's only if it gets blocked that the pressure builds up

Did exactly the same with mine. Once I got the majority out I shoved the wet and dry vacuum up it to get the remainder out. It ran underpowered and used more fuel. Put a cats back Eternal system on it once funds were there. :y :y

Morning I had this problem earlier this year. No warning foot down to overtake and Bang the back end felt like it lifted up in the air, I pulled over and went round the back my backbox had peeled back like a bananna and left a pile of stuffing all over the road. :'(

Had exactly the same fella, foot flat down and BANG! Unlike others, this gave me more power and sounded great.

might be worth getting a whole new system, if back box has gone its likely the centre boxes are not far off either.
Eternal looking at £120 cat back :)
