should be connected to the pump iirc, well it was on zafira dti :y
-
I have a spare pump for reference and cannot see where it would connect it's the 2.5 bmw lump :-\
-
in that case got no idea on that then
-
Sh*t I need to sort today as the car is being used by my son to drive 100 miles one way tomorrow to as show and he can't get all his gear in his MIcra ;D
-
The long pipe has to return to the pump somewhere ;)
-
I wish it was possible to get a diagram of the pipework to from the fuel pump and the plenum chamber for this unit as it's like the blindleading the blind 8)
-
Must be something on Google :-\ :-\
-
I have same engine mate not a mec but mine has an inline fuel filter thing with a bit more pipe on top just clipped on wheel arch to back of battery if this is the correct pipe of. Course :y
-
I have taken a couple of pictures of what I think you mean

I am no mechanic either if this is right it may explain one of my problems regarding fuel smell
-
I've tried google but no luck :'(
-
2nd pic is exactly as mine mate il go out double check now for you mate :y
-
It is the same if u need to I can pm u my num try and talk through what I see to compare to yours if it helps unless sum1 here can advise u better lol neither mec could be like the blind leading the blind ;D
-
That second pic looks like there's a vacuum pipe missing from the rubber pipe at the top :-\ But I don't know the oil burner that well so could be wrong ::)
-
I must say I've never noticed fuel smell only smell really I had I put down to little oil spill when topping Oil up :)
-
The fuel smell is probably leaking return (or Leak Off) pipes ;) I may be wrong, but that just looks like it should have a vac pipe in the end of it ;)
-
While I have owned the car there has never been a pipe to that little filter the previous owner had put the original fuel leak off pipe from the pump to the egr valve. He had put a leak off pipe from no1 and hid down the side of the pump :-\
-
I've just had a look at mine. The small pipe is the same as yours, so a vent of some sort. The long one goes to a union on the top of the fuel pump underneath the air intake. The union faces aft at the top of the pump, and has two similar pipes connected. Sorry no pic, I've not got the hang of it yet. :y
-
the long l/off pipe on No1 goes to a nipple on the diesel pump . on the other end the very last nipple there is a blank. in time they do perish consequentley leaking fuel . this nipple is hard to see , but the leak off pipe from 5 to 6 is visible so on No6 the 2nd nipple nearest b/head has the blank. only a couple of quid for a pack of 20. (small bore type 3mm i think) the inline filter that your picture is showing has no relevance to the fuel system.
-
The pipe on your photo with the small in-line filter is the EGR vent pipe.
The fuel return from injector 1 is on the front top of the injector pump.
you can see in the last photo on the link the return and the black plug at the front of the pump as I hadn't fitted the bango bolt at this point.it just pushes on :y
