Title: Bad weather.
Post by: Big Fra on 09 March 2008, 18:59:32
Just watching C4 news.

The weather affecting the south of England tonight looks terrible.
They showed a picture of GB and had all of england and ireland coloured in red, showing danger areas.

Yikes.

I hope no-one on here gets affected or suffers too badly

It's a bad one ........been here four years now and this is the worst storm I've experienced.
We're right down on the SW corner of Ireland and get all the storms first so going by whats happening outside ya'll better nail everything down.
Whoops , there goes Sky ,lost signal ,now that's a first .
We're dooooomed ..........

i was up at 3.00 to leave for work.

just had a 3.5 hour white knuckle ride, i am a fairly experienced driver, but that has to be the worse weather i have seen in a looooong time.

if anyone is driving today, my advice is take it easy, alloy lots of extra time, try not to get wind up by the muppets who drive as normal and remember to test your brakes if you have just been through a huge puddle.

take care out there  :y

Must have slept through everything. ::) Mrs. KW said something about some wind last night, and then I was litter monitor for about half an hour this morning because out wheelie bin bought it. Otherwise seem to have survived.

Suppose I should venture up the the airfield and see if my glider trailer is still the right way up. :o

coming up the A303 today there was a lot of debris on the road.....and as for puddles  :o :o
Got used to aquaplaning after a while, hit one load of water and went from 60 down to 40 very quickly just through the force of the water.

M25 was its usual stupidness, the only difference was there was some real humdinger puddles in the fast lane. Imagine that, 80mph in the dark, rain thrashing down, cars all around you, wind buffeting you all over the place and you hit that :o :o :o it would certainly change the colour of your underwear in an instant  ;D

Oh, that's not good.  >:( Could be worse though. You could be living in one of those towers in Wivenhoe park, as I was in the gales of the late 80's.  :o

On the 13th floor (unlucky for some?) you could feel the whole thing moving. We had whole windows blowing out. Half the doors were impossible to open due to the pressure. The other half slammed upen so fast when you turned the handle that you had to whip your arm out of the way to stop it getting crushed against the opposite wall. :o

HMS Jupiter (Leander Class) Nothing major, we lost a bottle or three from behind the Senior Rates bar but as there was (is?) no such thing as a Channel Night there hadn't been a load of glasses & food left out to be cleared up at 0400hr as I finished the Middle watch ::)  ::) (swing that lamp eh!  ;))  :y But that was about the extent of it.

Yep. Studied Electronics (and beer, etc..) from 1989 - 1992.

Actually, I think the whole roof blew off one of those towers in a storm. I remember seeing it out of the corner of my eye from a particularly boring computer lab session. :o

i can remember trying to get someone to serve me a ploughmans lunch in the students union bar, after many attempts someone told me that the reason the barstaff kept ignoring my requests and walking off to serve someone else was that i needed toask for a ploughPERSONS lunch.apparently the term ploughmans lunch was insulting to female farmworkers ::) ::)

All I got was a shit journey to work.

First the walk to the bus stop. Had my brolly that mum got me for xmas with me and it was holding well in the high winds. Unfortunately my hands were blue from cold and I was really struggling to walk in a straight line. Finally, my brolly gave up about 200 yards from the train station and folded in on itself. Ended up in the bin.

So I finally get to the station, wet, pissed off and very cold. I then find out a tree - a single friggin tree - caused chaos on the cambridge - l'pool street line. I was at Broxbourne station at around 7.40am. Didn't board the train till 8.40!!!

Finally got to work at 10am and immediately start getting whingey lectures about how some people have been commenting that I'm not helping them enough. I then go off on one into a rant about how I can't read minds and people really should tell me things as I'm always busy and would rather not create work un-necessarily.

Angry day at the office  >:(

Used to drive me up the wall. Still, I'm sure know I upset a few folk in return! ;D

They had a Vodka promotion one night but wouldn't serve me a pint of Vodka and orange.  >:( So, I ordered 11 shots of Vodka, 1/2 a pint of orange juice and an empty pint glass. Imagine their surprise when I made myself a pint of vodka and orange before their very eyes!  ;D

Happy days.
