Hi,can anyone help me out here, the new pulley arrived this morning,is there supposed to be any covers/washers with it.
Is there a guide anywhere to refitting,or is it just a simple as slip it on and tighten up.
As I didn't take the knacked one off,I really don't knowif there was a spacer on the rear of the bearing, any help please.

I can't remember about behind the pulley, but there's a large washer that goes on after the pulley that the nut tightens on to. what happened to the one that came off? :-\

Hi Andy, good question ,the AA guy took it off, replaced it a spare Merc one that he had in his van,and just passed me what was left over.
Another problem that I just noticed is that the thrashing fan belt dislodged some vacumn pipes, any ideas where the 2 long ones are from.

I'll go & have a look at mine.
Re vac pipes ... I'd guess they'll be from either the vacuum reservoir - bottom left of rad as you look at the front of the car or maybe from the dual ram change over at the back of the bag pipes. :-\

Just looked, there's nothing behind it but a large dished washer at the front. I'd show you if I could get the photo off my phone .......... (off to find the micro SD card adapter that I think has been 'borrowed' ::))

The longest vacuum pipe goes to the right hand side of the vac tank which is located at the rear bottom of the bag pipes and the shorter one goes to a T piece which is also located half way up the bag pipes at the rear ;)

Dished washer on the outside of the tensioner roller. :y

Just a update, the 2 pipes are supposed to be connected to the air reservoir but that has been damaged by the drive belt. Repaired it with plastic padding seems good to go,so put it back together tomorrow.

Hi,Job done but it's about the hardest fan belt that 've ever fitted in my life.Definitely a two man job when trying to fit the new belt,a 15mm socket and along pipe sorted it in the end.
Bye for a while, Alfie,
PS,back in the van next weekend ,2 more weekends before the end of the vanning season ends.

You're joking mate - two men to fit an omega fan belt - how many needed to change a light bulb?? ;D :o

Hi Debug, thats right I'm ashamed to say it,but I failed by myself. I could not compress the tensioner pulley enough and feed the new belt on .I just needed a extra pair of hands at that point, and a long pipe.

Just remembered that when the AA man was refitting the original one, he had to ask me to lever the tensioner over to help him refit the belt. Is this the wrong method,or is there an easy way.

Fit belt to all pulleys except water pump - lever tensioner over and belt will slide easily onto smooth pulley ;) :y

Hi dbug,Thanks for that I'll try that next time.Even though the belt is up and running it seems to be pretty tight, what kind of play should there be.

Very little, your tensioner is keeping it tensioned ;) ;) ;)

Thanks Andy,i'll sleep easy tonight.

As Andy said the spring tensioner should be setting the tension.
If you have been sold a belt that is too short it might be pulling the tensioner up to the endstop. Belt tension could therefore be stupidly high.
You should be able to fit an ordinary 15mm spanner on the nut on the tensioner and release all tension on the auxiliary belt without too much effort.

So if the tensioner is pushed clock wise, and the belt shows some slackness,it's ok.

Yes :y

Job done, thanks for all the help. One fault that was found whilst working on this was the connecting rubber pipe was split on the 15mm ssteel pipe on the front of the engine, would that reduce performance.
