Title: SWMBO isn't happy
Post by: Lazydocker on 21 October 2011, 22:45:11
As above, she upgraded to iOS 5 and has managed to do something wrong and lost all her contacts :'(

Of course, it was my fault ::)

But we have an IT geek/apple fanboy on the way over to try and sort it :y

Anyone know where iTunes saves backup files? Only need to find yesterday's backup to restore them from

how where the contacts stored? (its in settings, SIM only, iPhone only, or External with default account) Just on the iPhone? Mine is set to pickup contacts from G-Mail.

If only it was that simple ::) ::) She wouldn't let me set up her iTunes account after the last laptop re-build so it's iPhone only by the looks of it ::)

Don't need iTunes account for contacts, as mine points to g-mail, can sort/update contacts on my computer, it auto-pushes them to iPhone.

Was it stock iOS4? Not jailbroken? Default is to sync with contacts on machine iTunes is installed. If it was iPhone only, could be in trouble.

If your on windows, check: Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Not gonna happen at the moment ;) ;) Although 5 can be Jailbroken already :y

Think we need a Genius Bar appointment for both handsets as not convinced they're running right

Yup, untethered jailbreaks already out there, depends on boot rom though.

Nothing in iOS5 i really want, they appear to have just bundled the popular jailbroken apps into stock OS.

I, like Tunnie, sync my homosexual gayPhone to email - Exchange in my case, as its by far the best system out there for mobile sync, and I wouldn't trust Google with my contacts ( :-X) - so my phone never, ever sees gayTunes (guaranteed to screw the phone up), except those rare occasions that I need to update iOS.

iOS 5 offers nothing useful, so why ;)

Wouldn't bother with the Genius Bar, staffed by mongrel idiots. All they will do, at best, is factory reset it, and restore it.  Looking at it another way, would you take your PC to Tech Guys in PC World to be repaired ;)

It offers over-the-air updates. So you never need to connect it to iTunes again. Ever.

Then we wouldn't have to listen to you whine about how you hate gayTunes anymore. Please. Please upgrade to iOS5  :P :P
