Hi all, i've started to get a smell of very hot oil when i get out of car, sometimes then waiting at junctions, underside of engine seems damp with oil but none on floor,
Any help greatly welcomed,
-
most likely the cam cover gaskets, leaking onto the exhaust manifold heat shields :y
-
where are you located? Probably camcover gaskets...
-
mildenhall in suffolk about 30mins from cambridge, is this an easy fix?
-
Cam covers & easy :) - Fiddly but straightforward
-
im guessing gen parts are recomended, ill pop to the dealers in the week if i could get a list of parts needed if at all possible
-

BTW I have never needed to replace the 'inlet bridge to head' gaskets, 'inlet to inlet bridge' gaskets or 'inlet plenum O rings' but if this is the first time you have had the plenum off you may find evidence of previous bodgery..............

plenum has been off twice scince march at a local trusted garage due to thermostat stuck open then the oil cooler cover plate leaking :(
so shouldent need them

I'll second that suggestion - much easier to give Andy a bell and he'll give you the full kit for a good price :)

Just an update on the oil smell, had a look and found both cam covers to be leaking. purchased all seals needed at local Vx dealer, last monday and started job this afternoon, on removing the pasenger side cam cover both rear bolts were half out of threads :o, got that side finished and gonna do driver side tomorow, but all going well so far.

You'll find the driver's side is a piece of cake by comparison! :y ;) ;)
