Title: temperamental 2.2 petrol
Post by: Martin P on 25 October 2011, 22:35:36
My omega is playing up,

Started Friday been out in the Evening come back turned it off an it wouldn't restart, turns over fine but wont fire,  Left it overnight, next day same tried it 3-4 times check fuses, Called the AA they turned up an it starts first flick of the key..

Sunday night Non starting, Same Monday morning.  then Monday Eve it starts fine until this evening, come back 40 min's later it wont start,

got 3/4 tank of fuel. Was fully serviced 8k back.

The management light goes off when you turn it over as normal. Should the fuel pump run when you try to start or when it fires? as sure I cant here the pump when its turning over.

Been monsoon season this evening to can't check under the car.

What are the dash lights doing ?. I had an imobiliser fault, the car would turn over, petrol was getting pumped (pressure at the bleed nipple on the fuel rail) but she wouldn't fire. I seem to remember one of the lights was flashing signifying this fault.

Try re-syncronising your keyfob :-\

Get the fault codes read, on a 2.2 its often a hint of the cam sensor dying but, do nothing until the codes are known.

Keyfob re-synd affects remote locking only (not immob)  :y

Do my New code reader will not link upto my 00 2.2 but works on newer car's Grr! :'(

car has worked for 2 days then stopped this afternoon, the Immobilizer light is flashing on the dash now one with pic of car with spanner through it.  the engine light is lighting up as normal then going out when you try to start it.

So could it be a immobilizer fault?  100% fuel pump isn't running while its cranking over.

As I said, mine had a light flashing, I think it was the immobiliser. In my case it turned out to be the key chip reader around the ignition key, which needed a tech 2 ( or compatible  ::) ) to program. First check the chip in your key is still there.

Neither key will start it at the moment, but when it works both keys work,

dont think you have an immobilizer fault, possibly a crank sensor if it wont start?,you need to read the codes, buy a better reader! Autel maxiscan works well on my 2.2 :y

Where in Colchester are you?

Can't do anything for at least 4/5 days but might be able to read the codes for you after that ;)

had the same problem mate , in and out of the garage 8 times in 2 weeks . cam sensor changed , crank sensor changed , fuel pump changed . Nothing showed up on diagnostics. 5 times i had to be towed home by the AA , till i had a decent AA technician i know look at it, found it was an ecu fault where the fuel pump would intermitantly switch off . Guy showed me a trick to get it running by removing fuel relay and bridging the terminals. Sure enough she fired up straight away. couldnt afford an ecu for a while so made a kill switch for the fuel pump up and it was a goodun . worth a look ?

a 2.2 will start with a duff sensor. V6's won't.

After fitting a replacement ECU an ignition ring, chip etc   the car still wouldn't start  checked everything back again, connected the code reader(that now reads codes on the car) an No codes found after attempting to start it.

Check the Purple coloured relays in the engine fuse box, According to Autodata, 2000 model year 2.2, the LH one is fuel pump and RH one ECU control. NOPE opposite way round on my car, Fuel pump relay was dead So off to scrap yard for new one. Fitted it an it started and ran perfectly,  So I refitted the original ECU set up an it started on that as well, So it looks like a 75p relay from the local breakers fixed the problem.  But I'll keep the replacement ecu set up just in case

Good to see you got a fix Martin, even though you've had a right faff on mate it's been a learning curve if nothing else! ;D :y ;)
