thanks for the reply... Dont think ill be doing that job.....
Can i also post the problem is
Start the car from cold and the temp gauge takes a while to get to normal temp also the heat isnt getting hot hot just warm.. After about 15 mins then the gauge is at normal temp plus heater by then is hot...
Im guessing its thermostat not openning properely...
Or... Heat Valve ??
thanks

Normal, nowt to worry about

mine does the same. only really just noticed it as the morning air temp is cooler now ;)

Might find it improves with a thorough drain and flush of coolant ,especially the heater matrix and then a refill with new coolant mix :y
-
As Amba said, and look for the 'How to' on flushing the heater matrix in the maintenance section. I did mine this time last year and it made a world of difference!! :y

Sorry to but in, but I just noticed on my car similar problems. Today it got down to 35*f outside and the temp gauge would barely get above about a quarter when the heat was on. If I turn the temp all the way down to keep the coolant out of the heater matrix, the engine temp rises a little bit but it still doesn't get close to half. Even after a 20 mile commute.
This is my first winter with this car so not sure how it acted before in the cold.

A good indication that the thermostat is stuck open is if you feel the temp of the large hose to the top of your radiator. It should get warm in one go ie as the 'stat opens, but if it slowly warms up as the engine warms up, then it's likely the 'stat needs changing.
-
Until the engine reaches operating temperature it will run in warm up mode. It won't run 'closed loop' and the fuel consumption takes a big hit.
If the car isn't warming up properly then take the opportunity to fit a new thermostat and coolant flush :y

Agreed. :y
As a general rule, if I get into my car and drive it from a cold start, after a mile the temperature gauge is off the minimum and it's fully warmed up in another mile or two.
My thermostat failed recently and, while there was no sign of coolant flow from cold, it used to run well under the "mid-gauge" point unless in traffic.
On a 2.6 dash, I would regard 85-90 indicated on the gauge as the normal range of temperatures if the thermostat is OK. Mine was previously showing 75-80 unless in traffic.
The job is actually not as bad as it seems, IMHO. There's a bit of stripping down to get to the thermostat but it wasn't as bad a job as I expected to just change it. The key is to follow the guide (and watch the videos if you can stomach some seriously bad music and heavy breathing). ;D http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90647.0 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90647.0)

Now I am just kicking myself because when I first got the car, I replaced the cam belt kit, radiator, and cam cover seals, but did not dig the thermostat out at that time--I was planning on replacing it the next go around, when I would do the engine oil cooler too (mine isn't leaking, I had just heard it's a common failure on the earlier 3.0's).
So I better find some time to do the oil cooler and t-stat before it gets too cold here :o
