Never heard of them..until now. :-?

Old hat, rare these days actulay with modern production techniques which are pretty much 100% reflow and precision masks unlike the older through hole wave techniques.

Zinc whiskers are a different matter they are a whisker a few microns thick that grow from zinc passivated metal (i.e. as used in comms rooms and racks). They then get blown into the kit and short things out. Generaly its only the cheaper kit that uses zinc pass anyway, most goodstuff is aluminium or stainless....although there are some newer techniques now on the market.
