Title: Used petrol for once...
Post by: omegod on 01 November 2011, 19:55:02
As I couldn't find gas where I was so put £20 in for the first time in 8 months!

break me it was horrifying watching the display for the cost go up so quick :o but even worse to see how the car burnt through the expensive stuff so bloody quick ;D

I honestly could not run the beast on petrol full time and will definately look to gas again or diesel when replacement time comes.

VIVE LE GAS!! :y

Aaeye. Thank god for Gas. Petrol in an omega gives me a similar twitch to Falkens on an omega.  ;D

Yeah, me too. Still, there's a jerry can in the shed, and I doubt I'll need to put much more in the mower until next year... ;)

Never noticed it as much on the MFL Saloon but the FL seems to "Use" what fuel it thinks it should and take a reading every 30 mins or so... Really annoying on a long journey that the light comes on, then goes off, then comes on ::)

I also run on LPG, but I use around £20 of petrol in not much more than a month. :-\

I noticed that recently too - the gauge doesn't move for 100 miles or so (if you're cruising) then suddenly 'boing' and it goes down a chunk.. for a while there I always think I'm getting amazing mpg.. ;D

You do a lot of short(er) journeys though so have the 30s or so of petrol running on every startup ;)

Mines the same..if i let it tick over till it warmed up i'm sure it'd use less petrol before switching..but i'm usually running late so don't have the option  :-[

I have used three tankfulls of unleaded in 8 days viewing cars. It would nearly have been cheaper just to have had the first one.! :'( :'(

.......then try Paraffin. :)
We used to run a Ford Galaxy 500 Sunliner on it in the 1960's once the engine had warmed up on petrol
You could back it up to the dispenser on a garage forecourt & just get the delivery pipe in the filler behind the rearnnumberplate. All you had to do then was feed florins into the pump until the tank was full
In the morning, we started it by pouring petrol into the carburetor until the engine was warm enough
It went well in first gear, but when the auto box changed up it was not so good so we travelled everywhere in first followed by a noxious cloud of white smoke
People living along the A303 still talk about it to this day (the ones who were not asphyxiated that is) :D

He also set it up that it switches to gas almost straight away, much much better!  :y

To be honest im not sure what goes on with mine as I hardly ever put petrol in, must be 6 months ago I chucked a tenner in and it was near empty then, could it be starting on gas?? I just leave the switch on gas all the time and never feel/hear it switch over from petrol ???

Both mine will probably get their petrol tanks brimmed soon, ready for the snow/ice.  Actually, while Tesco have 5p a litre vouchers....   ....that'll be an expensive trip, as both are around 1/4 full

That still makes it £1.17.9p a litre.  I can feel my buttocks clench.

I'm more used to 69.9p a litre ;)

Ahhh happy days. used to run a pre-war Austin 12 on the same system during the petrol shortage in the late '50's, but we rigged up an auto petrol feed for starting. As they were used to running on 72 octane Pool petrol, it used to run quite well, if a little smokily. ::) ::) ::)
