Title: 2 more for the Twiglet stable
Post by: twiglet on 02 November 2011, 09:11:05
Thought I'd just post up a couple of pics of the latest additions to my collection...

Firstly, a 1998 MFL 2.5 V6 Auto Elite Estate...

And secondly, a 1995 PFL 2.5 TD Manual CD Estate...

Both cars have their problems, and are a bit tatty.  However I have a cunning plan and I will keep this thread updated with progress as it happens...

Think i'd be inclined to fit the TD lump into the Elite.  :y

Andy, I'm really glad you said that! Can I assume that you have just volunteered to give me a hand?  ;D

Tbh, it's either that, or swap all the elite bits into the CD.  At this stage I'm not sure which will be the best and easiest solution.  Both shells are in similar condition.

I had a similar decision to make with 2 cavaliers a couple of years ago, and it turned out that fitting the Isuzu diesel lump in a petrol cav would have been a complete nightmare, because the engine mounts were completely different.  In the end it was easier to swap all the CDX trim into the base spec diesel cav.

All thoughts and opinions welcomed...  :y

Sorry mate, I'm afraid the spoiler is already spoken for, assuming that I don't keep it for myself!  ;D

Thing is.... if you try and transplant the interior from the Elite into the CD your going to be missing various bits of loom... Elite Seat / Mirror connection, Bose, etc etc.

Would think it'd be a simpler job to transfer the Engine, gearbox, engine loom, fuel tank, diff etc over but perhaps best to ask someone like Omegatoy as it's probably something he's done before!

Personally I disagree, dont start swapping BMW engines with VX V6's its going to be a nightmare on engine wiring looms, ECU, etc. far easier to kit the 2.5 TD CD to elite spec interior.

Chris.

Forgot to mention nice looking cheap 2.5 TD Manual CD Estate there James, might buy that off you when its finished.  :y

It's quite interesting how different people have opposing viewpoints on the swap...

Personally, I think I'm more comfortable swapping all the elite bits into the TD shell.  At least that way the basic car should still work ok, and I can fiddle around getting the toys to work at my leisure.  :y

I'm itching to get started, but SWMBO has put a total ban on any more cars coming through my gate until the new year!!  >:(
