Title: wishbones
Post by: fiend61 on 03 November 2011, 21:42:03
hi all
had car into garage today creaking from front end going over speed bumps  :( it seems to be the wishbones doing the creaking but there is absolute minimum play in them when using a prybar and cant replicate the creak unless i drive over speed bumps, could it be wishbones or something else ??

Difficult to establish play in droplinks in situ that`s why it`s a rare fail on the MOT

I had creaky drop links  ::) ::) on a car (Carlton I think) no play in the joint, but had a split gaiter & so was as dry as a witch's ..... A blob of grease inside the super glued gaiter fixed it for ages.  :y :y

Creaking bushes can be located quite easily if someone bounces the car while you listen/locate the creak. If the front bush splits, the oil in the bladders leak out, they eventually dry out, and the split chafes against itself causing a squeak. TB's did exactly that. Not uncommon.

But it could be any other component, have a listen with an assistant "bouncer" :)

Had similar problem so renewed wish bones still playing up so spoke to Rob G he said about the drop links and as he said theirs  no play in situ but once removed swung like a pair of conkers, replaced in 30 mins or so now silent.
