Title: Another thing fixed
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 06 November 2011, 16:04:02
Well that was fun. This afternoon I have been changing my nearside Catalytic converter, and lambdas.

Just about every nut I look at was seized, rounded, mullered...  ;D

It's taken me about three hours, to do this job, on and off.

Not because I couldn't do it quicker,  but, because I've been taking my time about it, giving things a good soak in penetrating spray, and drilling out the bolt holes for the mid sections, etc.

The downpipe nuts were particularly worrying - almost round. Thank the lord for Irwin sockets!!

Now done, sporting a nice decent GM cat, with nice shiny new (non rounded!) downpipe nuts!!!

Sounds much better than the old, holed one! Just need to get a new cat back exhaust, and I'm almost ready to present for MOT now!

Done it myself a couple of times, not a pleasant job.
Question is though - did you have moral support, and if you did have it,was it because you actually needed it or did it just happen anyway. ::) ;D

Would have thought it sensible to fit the cat back section at the same time...?

Well yes it would, if I actually had a cat back section here.

I had to do something to stop it sounding like a tractor in the meantime.

I have lost count of the amount of times I have given up days, weekends, whatever to assist members who are in trouble with their Omegas, doing top quality work that dealers would charge a fortune for - for absolutely nothing, other than the cost of fuel.

Regardless of what any members/moderators/admins think, and regardless of any of my downsides, over the last 4 years, I have put a HUGE amount into helping this forum, and it's members.

I now feel that, based on the attitude of many people against me here, it's time it came to a stop.

Rightly or wrongly, oversensitive or not, I no longer feel welcome, or part of a "happy" community, like it used to be.

I think it's time to hang up my torquewrench. ;)

Rise above it James ... just ignore the wind ups and continue as you have done .. giving great help and support to many.

It would be a great loss to the forum should you leave.

As I said in another thread the other night, everyone seems to be getting tetchy and argumentative, as well as seeming to believe that only their view is important, don't know if its the weather, the clocks changing or something in the water, but it's not funny, or fun.  :(

Entirely agree Nige. :y.......If it keeps going like it is we will end up with only the same half a dozen people posting to tell each other how great they are.Its dying on its arse imo. :(

I'm not going to 'spit my dummy' and leave... what I'm saying is, my personal view regarding the conduct towards me at present, from some long standing members who, if they really did care about this community and value it's members, frankly should know better, is putting me into the mindset that I shouldn't devote so much time / effort into it, on the basis that I don't feel at all welcome, anymore.

Oh and - when/if, next time I post up about something I've done / want to do on my MV6, excuse the pun ;) but please can this not be used as a 'catalyst' to make digs at me?

It never used to be like this.

I know we disagreed the other night which to be honest I've put down to "personnal life experiences"...... but I have to agree with you on this one.......I just don't understand the comments on the other thread. I, like yourself, read it the same as your post.

Thanks for your comments, but - the point I'm trying to make is this.

By starting a new thread, about something different I'd done, I was actually attempting to enter discussion about something totally unrelated to that "other" thread, in the hope of "moving on"

Instead, people just continue to dig at me in the new thread as well

Any opportunity, eh?

Title: Re: Another thing fixed

and, IMHO, the important part is the "ignore" bit .. the more you answer, or look for answers, the more ammunition you give.....  just don't respond to the "digs" ... and they'll move on to someone new...  :)

Well rather more than half a dozen of us think you're great Albs, me being one of them so that blows that theory out of the water ;D
Seriously though, these things are a drop in the ocean when taken in context. I'll wager every one of those poor buggers burned to death on the M5 yesterday would submit to being slagged off unmercifully for all eternity just to be able to say goodbye to their loved ones! :'(
Shrug it off & get on with motley, lifes too bloody short! :(

I'm not having a dig. There are over 1000 replies in the post I linked, wouldn't it get boring if all those people had put individual threads of the work they had done on their cars

That's fair enough Pete. Your post was objective and I have no problem with it. I posted a thread simply because it's what I've always done. In future, I will be mindful to use the correct thread, rather than posting a new one in General Car chat :y

...well, as you ask, historically, pm ing you has been a complete waist of time. So that only leaves public contact, and as it's not the done thing to rip a member a new one in public, we're only left with what you see here. Digs. Digs that might provoke a response as to why? You could pm those concerned, but instead choose to cry "bullied" publicly, and promote yourself as perfect. Odd... And entirely up to you. But nobody is perfect.

As said if you wish to discuss it via pm...?

Doubt it Phil, once "they" get they`re teeth in it`s reminiscent of the old staffies that "lock on" to their "victim". Needs to be locked IMHO.

Seen it coming for a while now Phil :( If a member appears to ignore PM`s that gives other members the right to publicly have a go at him......................I don`t think so......................on the surface it seems that locking or nuking a thread is dependent on who the antagonist is. I hope I`m wrong but.......................... :-X

Nope. Wrong! I look forward to meeting James, he's a respected and very enthusiastic member. To be commended, given the chance.

Just trying to get through to the guy. But if he doesn't want to discuss it, fair enough. No skin of my nose tbh. Seems little point continuing though, as you rightly say.  :-\
