Post by: ree on 06 November 2011, 19:02:24
hi all, got a omega 3.0 v6 elite as you know had a year now drives very nice ,just noticed a creamy sludge under oil filler cap and down into the pipe itself around the rim .ive no prob with bubbles in rad or oil in bottle floating on surface ,and nice and clear on dip stick ,was abit worried about head gaskit ,but have a leak at rear of engine cooler pipe or valve leak , as red where been leaking but very slow, lasts for couple weeks before top up, looks a nighmare to get at even with scuttle removed , any ideas as to make this easier to do ? and what causeing my sludge probs thanks REE.

Sludge problem - nothing to worry about.A symptom of shortish journeys, particularily as the weather is now getting colder. :y
Leak may well be heater bypass valve - the usual culprit.Probably easiest to just whip the plenum off and trace the trail of red coolant to check and then replace valve/pipe/ whatever else is cuasing the leak. :y

Beaten by faster fingers!

The v6 filler sits quite high and this gets cooled quite readily and so causes mayo buildup on neck and cap. Also, short journeys means that the vehicle does not heat fully which would otherwise boil off any water in the oil, thus mayo.

Clean it out ( neck unscrews in the same way as the filler cap once you raise the tang around the bolt at the base) and replace. Also worth cleaning breathers out ( see maint guides for howtoo).

Water leak will probably be heater bypass valve ( common fault) and again, howtoo in maint guides.  :y

having read this with interest. i can now show a mate whose filler cap is sludging up, though oil & water are ok.  :y :y
