Title: Oil leak
Post by: Gaffers on 09 November 2011, 06:40:57
Looks like I will be busy this weekend finding out where my girl is leaking from.  It's not the cam covers and a lot is coming out.  Suspects are: camshaft seals, crankshaft seal (gulp) and sump....

Bugger

Can you put some pics up, cos they might help. The crankshaft and camshaft seals are pretty far apart so with little info there is not much can be advised.
Taking the Plenum off gives you a better view. I would have a look then give it a wash off so the leak will become clearer when it starts again. Run the engine only briefly after cleaning off or the leak might obscure the cause. Then have a another look.
Can you say where relative to the ground the leak is dripping?
Is your crankcase breathing system clean and clear cos if blocked it will cause oil leaks?
Sorry I can't further yet.
GudLuk though. :)

Personally Guffer I would run the car first so it starts leaking, then straight away strip your car down to make it easy to see the leak. If the Camshaft Seals are leaking the oil will make its way down to the Crankshaft area.
The Sump Casting is an area I have had to do a time or two so don't rule that out.
Would be an idea also to clean everything and so any later leaks can be seen and from where....

Don't be fooled Guffer, he just wants you to burn your 'pinkies'! ;D
Good luck with finding & fixing it, hopefully it will be the quickest/cheapest option  :y
