I can see what looks like two sensors on this, one at the back, one at the front. Which one determines if it auto-dips?
The rear windows on my 3.2 are tinted (which I don't like) - Its causing the mirror to dip i think, blasting along the motorway I could see a fair bit in the rear mirror, but then it tinted again & could see sod all.
This was during day, really don't like these, not driven it at night yet, but guessing I won't see a damn thing out of the rear window!

........
Think about it. ;) The sensor looking out the front screen is so it can tell if it's dark. The sensor on the mirror face is so it can see if there's a car behind with its lights on. If yes to both ................ it darkens/dips the mirror.
I always have my rear blind up, but even so I don't rate the self dimming mirror that much. IMO it's best to tape over the front sensor so it thinks it's always dark. ;)

Thanks Andy :y
Thats why I was asking, as it was day light. I always thought it took reading from the front, but wondered why it was dipping. Guess the tint is confusing it.
I'd rather it would never dip to be honest, because of the rear tint. :-\

I can't see how the rear window being tinted could make it dip? I can see how it would stop it from dipping, but not make it dip..

It was horrible weather, lights were on. Guessing tints + lights on made it think it was night :-\
-
But it thinks it's 'night' based on the light coming in through the windscreen (or absence of), and it dips when the sensor in the mirror face is brighter than the sensor facing the windscreen, essentially.. Wouldn't the rear screen being tinted guarantee that the mirror face always sees less light than the windscreen?
Maybe it's just faulty? It's powered IIRC, so if you remove the power to it, it ought to cease to be able to dip..
Then again, mine annoys me because it very rarely dips.. and I'd rather it did it more ;D

I only noticed as I glanced and thought "ooo I can see a lot more out the back"
Few miles later, look up again, "ohhh its all dark again" ;D

No, the mirror would not tint in your car, unless it caught light. Which it wouldn't.
Easy fix, it the one from your 2.2 ;)
Tuck the loom up into the sunroof panel, but cable tie away from the light bulbs (melts the wires)

Black tape over the front sensor ............. then it thinks it's always dark. :y :y

course if you do that, you'll have to find something to do with the dipping jobbie,, while you ponder it, i'm sure my MV6 would be happy to give it a home....... i rather liked the dipping mirrors in my previous 2 elites.... i'm slightly over photosensitive at night.... so it really helps to not be blinded by the idiot behind....
