Need to know...
Discovered som oil on my MAF on the 2.5 V6. Cleaned it out and then rinsed with water. Got better but still some issues. (not much)
Is it destroyed???
Have heard that it is no longer usable, and other said it can be cleaned out. Have to know by tonight, because I am leaving for Sweden tomorrow morning, and can get one there very cheap :)
So I would apreciate some input on this one, so go ahead and enlighten me :y :y
Regards
Steve

Do you have a K&N pannel or cone filter?
-
Switch / Contact cleaner may work, check it doen't melt plastic first (some do).
Might be worth getting your hands on a spare though.
Chris.

Don't try and clean it mate - usually b*ggers it!!
Ebay is your friend - I've got 2 new MAFs for ours off there for less than £30 each - both still working fine - HTH :y

Not the problem. Car desided to take a nap with it's wheels in the air on a field :-[
So the engine oil came trough the crankcase ventilation, and into the ram air system....
Did clean out the ram air system, and thougt i had saved the MAF from the oil, but that was not the case :o

Thanks guys :y
Just wat I wanted to know. E-bay was very cheap, but I'm going to drive 600km tomorrow :-\ Hopefully it will last that long....
If it get worse, i can get the Bosch unit there for little over 100£ in Sweden. My Only brother's wedding, so have to be there.
If it last's so long that I can get home, it's 42£ delivered to Norway from Ebay :y
Will se what happens on the road to sweden 8)
If anyone have some oppinion about the cheap ones compared to the bosch unit, I would appreciate if you let me know :y :y
Thanks again :y

I almost got a heartatack yesterday.. just wanted to know the price on the MAF on the local stealer in sweden.700£, yes, you read 700£(seven hundred) >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Found another supplier who has reosonable prices on parts, and they charged me a 100£ for the part :y :y And it's a bosch unit.
Could have waited until i've got home and buy from E-bay, but with snow an cold weather on the mountains back to Norway, I'l be better safe than sorry, and change it before the travel home ;D ;D

Do you have the link dbug? I've bought cheapies (about £30 each) off ebay twice now, and they put the emissions light out for me, and car seemed to run better, but only for about 2 weeks :(

Was quite a while ago now (probably 9-12 months) - I'll have a hunt round (think I may have the box somewhere in one of the garages) - if I find anything helpful I'll post it up.
Do believe I put the link in one of my OOF posts around that time on the topic of mafs
[Edit] Have searched my posts back to 2009 for "maf" - found lots of refs to my purchased mafs so guess they were purchased a lot longer ago than I thought!!

When you buying cheap MAF make sure inside elements are exactly same as the original. If you see two resistors instead of metal plate elements then don't use it and send it back to seller. MAF with simple resistors will be slow and will strongly affect yours cars performance. If you use brakes hard at idle you can end with stopped engine, trust me it's not what you want :y
