Title: CCR2006 CD Player
Post by: jonny2112 on 11 November 2011, 17:32:34
Is it possible to replace the CD player alone? I have just got my new Omega, and having resolved the 'safe' issue, I will be keeping the unit, maybe! There does not appear to be any CD player at all. There is an opening / aperture and I can see a computer style 'ribbon' connector. I know there can be issues with the cartridges (I have no cartridge either) but I'm wondering can a replacement CD player be fitted, rather than change the whole unit?
Cheers in advance  :y

Yes, BUT it must be from a CCR2006

If OP hasn`t got a CDC3 in the HU how will a replacement work without the original vertical PCB :-\

Cheers TB. I'll start looking! Guess it will be hard to find an individual part, so may have to take a whole unit. Is it a straightforward operation? And does the HU need to be removed to complete?
Cheers.

I'm not entirely sure what this is, but I'll have a closer look in the morning. I initially thought that simply the cartridge was missing, and not knowing the actual setup of the unit, I can't determine what is actually missing. I find it difficult to see why someone would remove the HU to take out the CD player without replacing it, so I thought that perhaps it had simply been pulled out. As if the cassette had stuck and when forced out had brought the surround with it?

Thats why he needs cdc3 from a ccr2006

So it`s only on the NCDx HU`s that you need to utilise the original PCB then?

The CDC3 must always have the correct vertical PCB that corresponds to the head unit that is driving it

So if the OP hasn`t got the original CDC3 or vert. PCB another CDC3 isn`t going to work, correct?

Correct - you would need a CDC3 from another 2006 to cannibalise, to give you the vertical pcb, and the sockets in the correct place for the ribbon cable to plug into.

A known working vert board from *any* CCR2006 will do in this case...

Correct - its worth noting that the CDC3 vertical board is not actually "Paired" or "Coded" to the head unit, but has to be from the same exact "model" of head unit for all connectors and firmware to be in the same locations.

Sounds like a lot of work! I guess I would just be better to wait and replace the whole unit which is a pity. If that is the case, is it worth considering any other units, rather than purely 2006?

Thanks TB, but it's the 'gap' I'm talking about, and why the whole CD has been removed? Weird!

No.

Have a look at the Maint Guide for changing CDC3 on NCDC radio.  Similar process :y

Just considering future replacement. TBH I'm not that bothered at the minute as I use an iPod via the cassette player, but it looks poor  :-[

CDC3's come up often enough on ebay. MUST be from a CDC3, which makes it a little more challenging though.

On the CCR2006 does the CD have a separate security code?

Is the front 'flap' on the CD player part of the player itself or part of the fascia?

Cheers Rob. I may have sourced a local unit (no postage  :y) but there is no 'flap'.
If its part of the fascia, then I can source it from a non working unit maybe?

Yep, change fascia over or if fascia is a bit ropey just swap the flap
