Hi guys.
Not sure if this is a problem or not but when sitting on the motorway with the cruise on and sometimes without too, if the car starts to go up an incline it seems to drop a couple of gears for no real reason, then hold them. Before it changes the engine note varies slightly as the engine obviously works a bit harder to get up the hill but it seems to be fine and can tell from the noise it's by no means working that hard. Then all of a sudden it'll drop down a gear or two and the revs will shoot up to about 5k RPM but once we get up the hill and go down the other side, it won't change up again for ages. I have to turn cruise off and leave my foot off the accelerator then it'll decide to change. Feel it click up a gear then feel the transmission lock up.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm going to get the fluid changed (any recommendations?) the week after next. Is this the sort of thing that would be cured by that and an ECU update if there is one?
Cheers

Quite common on Omega Autoboxes. Worth having the gearbox software updated by one of the people on here with a Tech II.

Yep - moderate throttle from motorway speed and they generally drop 4th to 2nd then back up to 3rd shortly afterwards. An ATF change every 70K should help the smoothness but won't stop the ECU from dropping two gears. Others on OOF have recommended Fuchs Titan 4000 (http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-965-fuchs-titan-atf-4000-multifunctional-automatic-transmission-fluid.aspx). If you register on the Opie site they give you a discount. There is a guide in the Maintenance Guides section.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll change the fluid and will hunt around for someone that can do an ECU update. I've written down the name of the Fuchs fluid too. I'd seen that on the Opie Oils site but wasn't sure what to go for.
Thanks again! :D

*bump*
After the trip down to Menai last week the car was doing this all the way there and back on the ups and downs of the A55. Rather annoying and got me some funny looks off an overtaking police car as all of a sudden it changed down to second going up a hill. The car doesn't have backboxes and the air intake pipe and base of the airbox are all drilled so it makes a right noise sometimes at high revs.
Is there anywhere to ask about updating the gearbox software in the local area? I went to a local Vauxhall specialist who looked at me like he had no idea what I was on about when I suggested it. I'll be giving them a miss.

Try whichever of the folks listed here is closest to you: http://theboy.omegaowners.com/tech2/prices.shtml

Nearest is two hours away in Nottingham. :( Might give Midpoint Garage a ring seen as they know the car. See if they can do it.
