Title: 2 Problems on my Omega, annoying! Aaarrgghhhhhhhh
Post by: Wayne on 12 November 2011, 20:51:20
Hi chaps, long time no speak  ::)

my 2 front electric windows are making an horrendous squeaking noise when you open and close them, sort of like that annoying screeching running your fingers down the blackboard type sound  >:(
any ideas how to stop this irritating noise?

2nd problem is my car key, i only have one!
it sometimes doesn't work when i press to open or lock it, and i have changed the battery 3 times in the last month and it makes hardly any difference..
is there somewhere i can take it to be fixed, and how do i get a spare key made WITHOUT paying Vauxhall hundreds of ££££?

thanks very much

try WD40 on all moving parts when door panel is removed
this is your first port of call

there are lots of keys on ebay but needs tech 2 to code the new key to your car

get another key cut and take out the transponder inside your old one and put in new one then send old one to martin. the new key with the transponder will open the car manually and start the car  :y
untill you get your repaired one back then swap the transponder back and have your central locking working off the key again  :y  plus at least you will have a spare key in future  :y

It's probably a loose connection in the fob - Martin should be able to sort it :y

The best thing in my opinion for the window squeeking long term is Sylicone Spray. After squirting just one time on all the cars I have had that problem with in the past it stopped it up until after I got rid of the cars.

As for the key, I would recommend either using Martin Imber or my local main dealer Vauxhall quoted me £40 programmed for just the remote part for a 3 button remote for my Omega. or if I wanted a complete key with programmed chip for immob providing you have the code with the history on a credit sized card my local dealer would do it all for £80.

I use silicone spray as well - the stuff for nylon curtain rails.  That hardware store on Holloway, just off Cowley Rd, should sell it.

Fob - iirc, yours is an estate, so 2 button? If so, just resolder the battery holder, as one of the connections would have broken ;)

As for replacement keys:

Blade and transponder - £10ish, egay
Getting key cut - fiver? Expensive, as it is Oxford ;D
Fob - £25 - £40 depending on type, dealer
Tech2 - £10 - http://theboy.omegaowners.com

Dont get silicone on the glass though, nightmare to remove.

PTFE spray works better imho :y

What are you trying to do. When you're in headless chicken mode, its hard to keep up ;D

I doubt your local dealer will programme a new key they haven't supplied.
